I am looking at buying a diver for about 1000 new or used. I like these two models but I can not decide. Also which lume lasts longer I am looking into a lume that can last 6 to 12 hours, another watch I was also thinking about was the stienhart ocean 1 titanium 500. any Ideas

    Dollars / Sterling / Rials / Pesos ?

There are some superb Seiko Marinemaster 300 Professionals, surfacing recently around the £1k mark - The lume is blinding

Looked at one in my local watchmakers - It is an impressive beast, possibly even more macho, than a Sea Dweller

Honestly if you like the Shogun, I would get the new Turtle re-release, its basically the same dial and similar movement (hacking/ winding), and way more interesting watch at 1/2 the price. Then pic up a skx 009 for something a bit different that does not hack or wind if that is your thing.

The Aquis in gray is one of my favorites, also less often seen than Seiko (a good thing).

It comes in about 4 different colors. Pepsi, All black, and black w/ gold highlights. Also there are 2 alt PADI varients.

If I was going to spend 1k on an Oris diver, it'd be the Sixty-Five.

Lum-Tec does some neat stuff with divers for less than a thou.

With the quality problems I've seen and their restrictions on access to case parts, I can't endorse the brand anymore. It used to be a brand I would recommend at these price levels, but no longer.

Also note that strap/bracelet options can be much more limited with Oris due to their designs. You can always get custom straps made, but if you are looking for a budget watch you don't want to spend 50% of the cost of the watch on a customs strap...

    Cheers, Al

Archer, could you please tell us more about those quality problems. I like a few Oris divers although never had one. My GF has a big crown pointer date Cal. 644 and she's been wearing it for years without any issues. However, if the newer models have quality issues I'll think twice before I set eye on one.
    Thanks in advance.

Primarily problems with the shiny metal hands getting a white film building up on them, and then pitting. Also the dials fading quite badly in some cases. I'm not sure how well the more recent watches are standing up - I don't service them much anymore since they cut off their parts supply, and I don't tend to follow the brand as closely as I once did when I was active on FOOF...
