I had just bought my son a G-Shock and was surprised at who nice it was - I was just about to place an order for my own 'beater' G-Shock that I could knock around in when I saw this thread …………… have to say was really surprised at how great some of the Seiko's look, had never considered them before (gave a local store a call to see if they can source one of the ones below).

Thanks for the thread / inspiration ………...

All 3 might be a stretch given I'm planning an Omega SM purchase this coming week!

But hopefully the lure of selling me the Omega SM and a Seiko will motivate the dealer to source me one of the Limited Edition Seiko and also give me a decent discount on the SM !!!

Pongster, quit enabling all of these watchaholics with their addictions! I wonder if there actually is a watchaholics anonymous. My list is getting too long for me to remember all the wonderful watches seen on the forum for me to purchase. I might have a problem too... (all said in good fun, poking at Pongster, Washington the state, Western Australia and other organizations that may use "WA" as part of their watch addiction denial...)

Sort of still on topic, and sort of a random question linked to the above s well ………… for the first time in my life (global pandemic permitting) I will be going to Japan in April - is there anything Seiko-wise that you can pick up in Japan that you can't outside?

Suspect the answer is 'no', but just wanted to check as I suspect this is my one and only trip there, and hence my one and only chance to pick up anything 'local' that isn't available more widely …………..

I bought a sne520p (Australia exclusive dive watch) in Australia that was not available globally. So Seiko does have country unique watches. I hope that answers your question about country exclusive Seikos. I think that a watch retailer/seller in Japan that is willing to ship international can also scratch itch, should you find a watch you desire. Not a good photo as the Australian Olympic colors are hard to see on it.

It used to be that JDMs can only be purchased in Japan as they were not actively sold by Seiko itself outside Japan.

But JDMs are now available worldwide. Not sure if Seiko itself sells them outside Japan. But lots of resellers doing so. Partly because this Japan-exclusivity thing has been a come-on.

Even the Ginza boutique only editions, i see sold online.

That said, would still be fun to get a Seiko from Japan. Got two of my GS in the Ginza store. Sadly no discount.

Hard to beat a 6309 for value for the money... add on an Uncle Seiko Z199 and you have an almost perfect pairing.

Having inspired me above, I've been searching out one of the new Seiko Black Series SPB125J1 or SLA035J1 (left and middle in the picture below).

I wondered, if I can't track these down are there similar alternatives within the Seiko 'dive-style' family?

It seems I sort of have a thing for a bit of 'orange' on watches - I've just bought the AT with the Orange second hand and stitching, and already owned the orange bezel PO - and I generally I like 'clean' dials (maximum complication being the date) and a bit of colour (orange it seems is my thing, but also perhaps red) - just something functional and clean within the diver-style stable would be great (the solar element of the Black Series editions of 2018 probably took them a bit too past functional for me).

Doesn't necessarily have to be a Limited Edition, it was more that I just liked the new Black Series Limited Editions in particular.

Thanks for any suggestions / ideas …...……......

Just landed this from a friend who was going to “mod” it. He included a ceramic bezel he picked up which is used in a “hulk” or “Kermit” mod. I guess it requires a sapphire sandwich or something. He was explaining it to me like I knew what he was talking about I didn’t want to question him too deeply as I helped him out of a bad spot and he gifted this to me, told me to sell it if I wanted he said he switched his watch addiction to a beta fish addiction. He said beta fish aren’t cheap. Has two seiko rubber straps, the jubilee bracelet and the extra ceramic bezel used in the mod. Not sure what to do, anyone familiar with the mod he is talking about. I’ll do some research online. I really like the 007 I just feel they are a bit big on me. Sorry really bad pic just wanted to catch the lumens image.jpg

yes it’s a green ceramic bezel which is used to make it look like one of the green bezeled submariners. The bezel should work on the Stock handled crystal.

How much love for my King Seiko 4502-8010 from 1970? Let me count the ways. A horologically significant movement from Seiko- as it was in both the KS and GS and gave the Swiss a run for their money in the late 60s...it’s the last “hand made” manual from Seiko , a true high beat with wonderful accuracy
( mines about -5 secs a day), strong case and dial design... hacking seconds and and quick date change.
To think all this quality - at a very reasonable price. I love my Swiss watches - but this King Seiko is hard to beat!!

ok cool is it something worth tackling you think? I need to look at this bezel better he mentioned green but to my eye it looks black but I didn’t study it that closely. I don’t know if it’s a wise thing to change up these 007
