A fun project in progress... NOS bezel on the way... debating whether (given the dial and handset and bezel are immaculate) I want to send the case to the Lapanist for a refurb... that gentleman does absolutely exceptional work, but it feels like a tough call... I’m generally a stickler for keeping things original... opinions are welcome

Can I ask you seiko guys something. I have a couple seikos I really like that I picked up for, in some cases 65 bucks new, it was a special sale on amazon and then others which were a couple hundred. What do you do with these as the years go by? Do you normally spend the cash to service them? I know the answer lay with how much you like the watch I’m just curious if people spend more than they paid for the watch to service it.

Generally at that price you run them into the ground... hard to justify outlaying 3-4x what you paid for a watch for a service, unless some sort of sentimental value gets attached to the watch for you over the years.

Pretty amazing how well the lume has aged on a 44 year old watch D6CC90DD-DCE6-4EA1-BBFD-BC7F461A083D.jpeg BFC89F25-1115-4F52-B77D-F3DD7CB31CE4.jpeg
I agree, it helps to think of modern Seiko as two brands. If the watch says “made in Japan” on the back of it then its probably worth fixing.

Both the Lord Marvel and the Grand Seiko are excellent looking watches as well. I do seem the like the second King Seiko styling with the two tone metal colored dial. A hard but lovely decision for any day of the week.

Anyone throw a vintage JB Champion or a new replica Forster bracelet on their vintage Seiko chronos ? I think it would look good but haven’t pulled the trigger on a bracelet.

Damn I just made an offer on a seiko Alpanist. It’s a really nice set, original box and extra bands. I really dig these watches. Such a nice look and nice size. I picked up a skx007 which I’ll probably end up just selling as the alpinist is a better size for me and the ones you guys have look great. I think I probably went to low on the offer but it was the minimum offer he would allow so maybe he will counter with something reasonable. I promised myself no more bids or acquisitions until I sold off a couple things but I’m sure you know how that goes. Really set off to pick up a world timer or pogue but the pogue went before I made the offer and the world timer is making me hesitate as I just have feeling it may be a redial even though it’s just a couple numbers that make me think this.

Thanks for this thread by the way u guys always answer my questions and it’s a great thread to learn the better models of seiko

Very nice. I made the offer on the green but both those are nice. Are they both the same size? They look a little different but probably just the photo. I notice the price on these used is climbing a bit. Same with the presage, I actually picked up a presage for under 200. Loved that dial but didn’t like the lug size and ended up selling it for under 300, had it listed locally for just two days and it got scooped up now I rarely see them under 300 lately. Also the skx are really shooting up but that is understandable I guess I think people are getting them thinking they will be worth millions in the future. I’ll hold on to the 007 I got unless I get the alpine but what I really want is an 013 but they seem to be more difficult to come across than the 007. I found a guy selling 007 for 200 and he seemed to have an endless supply so I gave a couple away as gifts and sold a couple then when I went to get one for myself his connect ran out. They were all new with tags and boxes now I see even used ones going for 400 on the steel bracelets. It’s all good though, when your a watch fan you come to know you just can’t get everything you want and you need to sell some things to pick up other things. I find it fun as well. Since I only do face to face sales I know it cuts down on what I can make per watch but I chip away and make 75 to a couple hundred a sale but being the bad salesman I am I do fall prey to sad stories. I have one guy who contacts me and if I’m selling something vintage he always tells me I’m charging to much, even after dropping the price, because the watch is “old and used”. I haven’t sold to him I always tell him to buy a new invicta.

Anyway, back to seiko, being a small time seller I was really surprised to see how fast certain seikos will sell, had my 007 contact not dried up I really think I could have funded my smp purchase just selling those.

Damn sorry everyone I didn’t realize that was such a long article I wrote. TLDR

So true. I love the look of the skx007. Fingers crossed that you get the alpinist.
