Because you are not the Japanese market where the high end ones are sold. They are designed for a different set of requirements then Swiss watches.

i get that. the japanese are very loyal as well.

i just wish seiko would branch off to distinguish their low and high end with another brand entirely

I really don't understand that post? What's wrong with an MM300 (SBDX017)??? Apart from it doesn't say Rolex on the dial, damned fine watch and certainly worth the asking price. I have a Rolex Sub but prefer the MM300.

Kawasaki make the KX65 and the H2, Honda make the Cub and the Goldwing. Same brand vastly different products and prices.

i'm not saying seiko's aren't made well, nor am i saying their not great value or worth the money for some of their more expensive watches. what i'm saying is the brand is heavily stigmatized in the usa and their brand perception is pretty poor.

and one reason for that is distribution channels. you cheapen your brand and the message your sending selling at walmart for $60

that's not a good analogy in response to what i said. it's doesn't change anything. what it does however is confirm what i said in the previous post about the need for parent company multi branding and the levels to it.

I think you're just stating an opinion as fact. The brand is not heavily stigmatized in the USA.

Also there had been too many posts without a photo.

what seiko is trying to do is get market share from every walk of life. they sell disposable watches and high end watches. and plenty in between.

i think it's difficult line to walk as most people think they are synonymous with an average inexpensive watch.

they're not helping their brand image and high end items by selling crap at walmart and strip malls.

rolex and many, many brands wouldn't sell a cheap watered down version of their watch at walmart. that would be marketing suicide. but apparently it's okay for seiko. it's okay because they don't care enough about their brand image to avoid the cheap money grab and profits. and if they don't care you shouldn't either

Why do you think your the market for Seiko? Also I think your confusing them with Casio.

Omega should leave swatch group then?

I think there’s a spirit in what Seiko does that actually is quite the opposite of what you’re implying. Or maybe it’s that you just don’t “get it.”

Seiko produces watches for the layperson, the true bang around tool watch, they’re successful with that model and have a sterling reputation. You sound like you’d be happier if they hyped-up and snobbed-up like other brands do and charged a lot more for their product than it was worth. Why?

Many Seiko consumers appreciate that they don’t do that.

They now offer Grand Seiko as a separate brand. Those in the know buy the watches because, like their Seiko counterparts, they offer incredible value and exceptional finishing but in a luxury format. This is a watch for a real connoisseur who probably buys the watch for its merits rather than to impress other people. You probably find that crazy.

Just because they make a large range, does not mean their higher end fair is lesser than other brands at the same price point. From Seiko 5 to Grand Seiko they make great products. Grand Seikos are on par or better than Rolexs for much less and the Seiko 5 is the best deal on a automatic. Those are just two examples
