Hello everyone, I dare to distract your attention to request information and advice regarding a Seiko watch that I am interested in buying.

A few days ago I found this watch for sale, I really liked the model and it is in very good condition, all functions are working and it is at an affordable price.

However, there is something that is stopping me from closing the deal, and that is that some of the pixels are disappearing, as you can see in the photos.

I have searched for information on the net to know if this situation can be fixed or if there is nothing to do, or if there is someone who can repair it but I have not had any luck in finding any clues.

I appreciate the help or information that you can give me.

Could be a low battery.
Could be a failing LCD.
Could be moisture.
Could be battery leak residue shorting things.
Could be it needs a service.

I wouldn't touch it unless it was demonstrated to be working correctly with a brand new battery and the inside was shown to be clean and not affected by battery leaks/moisture. Even then there's a risk the analogue movement is drawing too much current and depleting the battery.

 

Thank you very much for the information, I am going to ask for a photo of the movement, and I am going to investigate if there is someone in my country that provides service to these watches.

Movement does look perfect visually, however the lcd make up of the display is showing it’s age. It’s like an old calculator that drops segments of the numbers over time. The miniature lcd’s on the main board is/have failing\failed and unless you can get a complete perfect NOS movement it will never be right.
I don’t think it’s low battery, you should see the seconds hand judder and general back light failure etc to indicate low battery.
I’m no expert in this area just giving my opinion.

Spencer Klein of kleinvintagewatches might be of help. These use the same movement as the H601-5480, sometimes known as the 'upside down Arnie' which some do collect, so I would guess there should still be people out there doing repairs for this caliber. In terms of spares, I would think that finding a junked h601 on the bay with a good lcd panel would be a good idea. A search on the bay also does show an LCD panel part for your particular caliber being listed as NOS. I'm no expert on these as well, just sharing what I know.
