In a further attempt to recharge the coffers hit hard by @Spacefruit's recent spree, I'd like to pass on this lovely 1990 Seiko RAF-issued military watch.

This family of watches was issued by the RAF from October 1984 until November 1990, 37mm wide (excluding crown and pushers) and featuring Seiko's highly-regarded 7a28 movement. This watch is number 10,770 of 11,307 pieces issued, and its Seiko serial number dates it to June 1990. It's quite a late one, then. It comes freshly serviced and wearing a new grey NATO strap (as per RAF standard, it has fixed bars rather than springers).

I bought two of these watches recently, and decided to keep one and pass the other on after having them both brought back to life. I was going to keep this one as it's a later issue, but in a fit of unpredictability, I've decided to hang onto its brother instead.

How much for this beauty, you may ask? I'm asking a strong but reasonable £1,000 net to me. I'll happily take offers and answer questions, but the first person to offer my asking price gets the watch, including delivery to a UK address. My ideal would be a face to face transaction in/near London; I'll have the watch at the next Time4aPint if it's still available, or I'd be happy to show it in person at another time if we can agree it. Overseas shipping can be arranged at the buyer's expense.

I have little selling experience here (example) but plenty of buyers references, ebay buyer & seller history etc. Contact me if you'd like more details. I'm a collector for my own enjoyment, so don't buy & sell watches for profit - I've only sold 3 or 4, ever, though recent acquisitions and the waning of Mrs D's patience means that may have to change a bit more.

It's just had a full strip & service from Seiko specialist @Sir Alan who described the dial, hands and movement as "10/10". It's got a new Sternkreuz crystal.

As you can see from the photos, the case has signs of wear though maybe a good bit less than you might expect given the life such watches could be expected to have, and some of the shabbier ones that show up for sale are evidenced to have had. The case back has a couple of scratches which may have been from a previous attempt to get the back off and there's a little wear from where the Nato strap would have rubbed, but the engravings are clear and crisp.

For more info on the RAF issued reference particularly, see Worn & Wound, or for the 7a28 in general (including further info on the military watches), check out the collector's guide on The Springbar. There's an 11-year old piece on Seiko military watches in general on Ned Frederick's site.

Thanks to OF for the space. Just for giggles. I started the chrono and took this picture at 1/30th second shutter speed.

... and this one at 1/6s.

If you haven't seen a 7a*8 chronograph running, you're missing a real treat. It's the world's first - and arguably still the best - quartz analog chronograph.
