    Hello all,

I have never had eye for SEIKO, until I saw this reference few months ago. I kept searching and reading, but still I am a bit confused on case shapes / polishing. I found only one, that has sharp edges (from respected seiko collector in sweden) here: (photo is from is blog). The thing is, I found like another 20 other 8000 and 8001 reference, but all of them has more rounded shapes. The second photo is the watch I plan to buy. But now I am not sure if it was / was not polished.

Second question I havent found answer to, what is the difference between 8000 and 8001?
    Thanks for your help.

I was talking to a Seiko collector today and he thinks it might be the same but just denotes the geographic area it was sold in.

interesting, thanks. Would it be possible to ask this guy another question? I am mostly confused about sharpness / roundness of the edges. I found 20 references rounded (left one), only one example with sharp edges (right one, but this one is from respected seiko collector). So it got me confused and my thought went: did I found 20 polished cases? or are there 2 different case types? Still not 100% sure. For the record 8001/8000 is not the case reference, as both examples carry 8000. But I do believe, there are 2 case types.

PS: I decided to buy the watch anyway. It comes from serious collector, bracelet seems to be unworn and fit the case.

He’s not sure. I’d look at over all finishing to determine if it’s polished or not.

good point. don't know, but might be it. I am not experienced enough to say. havent had this model in hand before. So curious to see and study in detail when it comes.

But after closer study I think it is definitelly 2 different cases.
    See the highlighted detials:

    1.
Lug on my model is the same thickness on both sides. The other one is thinner on upper side.
Meaning, if my model was polished, that would be even thinner than right one. Not thicker.

    2.
Right edge of case is wider / thicker than the other case.
It is visible, that on right case the outer crystal ring touches the edge od the case.
While on mine there is like solid 1mm of case mass visible.
Meaning again, if it was polished version of right case, it would not be possible.

    Well, this is my thoughts.
It doesnt say, if mine was or was not polished, but for sure it say that mine is not polished version of other displayed case.
