I bought a 62MAS and my watchmaker said the setting side of the movement is fubar’d and that a donor movement is the best way to get it back up and running. My question is whether any of the other 62xx calibers will work for parts or if I need to source another 6217. Thanks for the help!
Awesome!!! I think I may go that route and then sell with the original movement for the new owner to sort.
I don't know. It was a couple of years ago when I did mine. Most of the info I got was from SCWF. https://www.thewatchsite.com/21-jap...n-forum/26359-seiko-6217-62mas-movements.html
From that link. "The 6217A is a cousin of (and can be replaced/upgraded with) the 24J 6205B movement used in the Seiko Selfdater 6205-8960 of the same period"
Says in this link https://www.thewatchsite.com/21-jap...226-6217-8001-62mas-complete-restoration.html that the 6206 is thicker and may not fit.
Thanks to @sdre for putting me in touch with a Seiko expert who coached me to buy a donor 6217 for the setting plate since mine is corroded, and explained that the date and setting gears are the same on a 6206, so if my donor movt has issues with that, I can source a cheap 6206 and be set. Fingers crossed! Thanks @Tubber for the heads up on a donor movt angle.
