I bought mine in 2011 on my final trip home after working for 38.5 years in Saudi Arabia. I was at Bahrain Airport with a pocket full of local money I needed to get rid of. The Seiko 5 jumped out at me so I brought it back home. Probably the best watch for the money.

    Umm the logo is meh...

Is the SRPD replacing the SKX???? It sure looks like it. SKX was rumored to be going out of production a year ago.

Similar case and specs. Fixes the SKX being alone as not a Prospex or a 5.... does add a clear back.

Agreed on all points. I have noticed a lot of competition at this price point and personally think these look cool and will do very well. This will push prospex up slightly and give a clearer view of bottom , middle range and high end lines I feel. I look fwd to trying one out soon. These are the Penny's to Seiko and look after them and the Yen will look after its self.

Hmm maybe not an SKX replacement. Obviously the same idea but only 100m we and oddly no screw down crown. Also no bezel lume pip. But they do have applied hour markers... I smell a dial swap possibility.

Still some sharp looking pieces in that new line up.

Anyone feel comfortable/uncomfortable that Seiko strategy is to MASS market to every single person on the planet at their low price points, decent looking dials/layouts wearabilty?

A collector friend of mine once said he finds it incredible that people are willing to pay 10k usd on a watch that has the same brand name as a 35 dollar watch.

I suppose it's a competitive world out there and everyone is fighting for market share.

I would like to see the watches in person but hope they do well.

I also like the fact they have a variety of price points.

It's a good opportunity to introduce people to their product and then maybe move them up to their higher grade models.

I am regretting not snagging a few extra of the SNZF "Sea Urchin" when it last appeared on Drop. I wear this one more than any of my pricier watches because of the incredible value, simple and easy to read dial layout including date. Shame it seems to be going away from the line-up...
