Hello all, Newbie to the Omega watch world here. My collection of other watches includes Marathon, CWC, Seiko but my "grail" is a 1959 (my birth year) Seamaster. I came across this listing but have a few concerns.

    http://forums.watchuseek.com/showthread.php?t=2167482

1: The large "Swiss made" at 6 on the dial just doesn't look right to me.
2: I asked the seller for a photo of the movement but got a reply that he could not open the case. (Then how would he know the cal. he mentions in his description?)

Any comments and/or advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,

I was about to suggest that you posted it in our "worst redials" thread, but it's already there.
It's a terribly bad job, avoid it.

Thanks! At least it's good to know a really bad redial sends up a red flag in my mind.

I went on the same quest a while back, trying to get as close as I could to a 1957 Seamaster. I eventually found this little beaut at a local coin dealer. I checked the inside and all the numbers added up to a likely legit vintage watch. The movement (Cal.520) was only produced between 1957 and 1959. The serial number and the style of the medallion on the back suggest that it was finally put together for sale in 1958, 1959, or maybe even 1960. Nailing down a specific year could be difficult, but if you found one of these (Omega ref. # 14722) you'd be about as close to what you're looking for as you can get. I paid about $600 as I recall. Good luck!

    Omega*

I have an inkling that asterisk links to a hidden disclaimer that it's actually a pretty sh*t refinishing effort.

I like the ridiculous long subdial hand and the fact that Swiss Made is even more prominent than Omega.

Yup, that looks dodgy even to my untrained eye!
