Second Opinion Pie Pan Constellation (168.005?)

Hi all, I'd love a second opinion on the Constellation in this random lot of watches. These are the only photos that I have and they're clearly not that great, but everything visible seems to check out.

Obviously the crown isn't the original, but does everything else look alright?

Thanks!

What is the asking price?

Are the three watches sold together by a private seller?

If this is the case and there are (and will be) no other pictures available you could think about a gamble

I think the Connie looks very good so far, only a bit gunk which could correspond to the sharp looking case. Could be a watch only worn rarely

Font looks good and after zooming in I think there are serifs also.

You know the risks involved... 馃槈

What do you know about the seller and the story? Do you think they know what they have, and are pretending they don't? A watch of this significance in with a couple of fairly ordinary ones could mean a number of things, including fish-bait. Depends on the price of course, but who would sell a watch like that as part of a job lot without either knowing it's not what it seems or not knowing what they've got?

Looks pretty good to me too.
Late 168.005
painted indices.
Decent case.
Replacement crown.

Agree that is odd to sell together with the other watches unless someone has inherited them all and is getting shot of all at once.

even so, a quick ebay search would throw up a multitude of constellations.

I do this stupid thing a lot too, sell things together because I don't want to be bothered with separate sales, it's usually because I have 1 high desire item, and I want to get rid of the rest, and the lot has to sell because of that 1 high desire item

But like I said, it's stupid, you make less money for various reasons

With this said, masteroftime, I wonder how many times we battled without even noticing, lately I've been going 1v1 a couple of time upwards of +$350 for a single item, it's fascinating how just 1 more person wanting something too can result in such a price difference 馃榿

I didn't contest this lot tho, but I've been contesting most of the C-Case ones 馃榿

Both fortunately and unfortunately, I have already purchased it. I took a leap in the moment and after a few days of stressing I decided to post and see if I majorly screwed up. It was in a Japanese auction and I bought the lot for around $1,300. I figured I could sell the lordmatic and it would cover my shipping and customs charges.

Honestly, I took the bait and I'll have to wait and see how it pans out. I didn't get any red flags about the particular watch, but started doubting myself soon after. Hopefully it won't be a tough lesson. While the lot did seem odd, I've seen some interesting lots and combinations with watches from the Japanese market. Stuff like this is often labeled either individually or as a group "junk" and sold off.

The majority of pie pan dials on ebay are rough and the cases often look like melted butter. The really nice ones seem to sell for around $2000 and sometimes a little more. I figured that buying a slight mystery and spending a few hundred on a service might get me something better.

Sounds like a good deal to me. While possibly not worth just as much as the 167.005/14900 no date versions, it鈥檚 still a very, very good price for a pie pan variant of that ref. So: congrats. 馃榾

Thank you! I only recently realized there was a premium on the no date variety. It makes sense, but probably to the benefit of my wallet, I almost exclusively seek out date-only watches. 馃榾

I know what you mean. I've done that a few times just to get rid of stuff I've had around.

Honestly, we must have done so a few times. I've bid on the date-only linen c-case, but keep pulling back because prices have been a little crazy. There definitely has been plenty of competition lately.
