Hi guys, So after owning a Seamaster for 5 months, I'm totally obsessed with automatic watches and the Speedmaster has caught my attention. I just need a second opinion on these watches I've been eyeballing for awhile as I'm unsure if its risky or not to buy it from Japan cause it's a bit cheaper(with consideration of GST and import fees) or should I buy one from an AD or local store(Melbourne, Australia). Selling has told me that the date and jeweler's section of the warranty card is blank for what so reason. It seems abit sketchy and I'm afraid this may affect the resell value. What do you guys think? https://www.chrono24.com.au/omega/o...o-axial-chronograph-steel-40mm--id4950313.htm Omega Speedmaster Professional "Moon" Watch http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/382001699559?_trksid=p2060353.m1431.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:ITPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
Can't go wrong with the Moonwatch. It appears to be an early version 3570.50 Luminova. Movement number seems in the correct range, production from 1997 ish. I've bought many nice watches from Japan. Can't help you regarding the Ozie customs issues but there are many here who can.
Hi If the seller declares a price over au$1000 you will be hit with 10% GST on both the purchase price and shipping cost. There is then a $90 processing/admin fee. If the seller uses FedEx or similar it is quick and easy. With AusPost, expect a significant delay. Once the shipment arrives, they send you a letter asking you to declare all the contents and value. That can take 10 days to arrive. You fill it out and send it back. They send you an invoice. That can taken another week or two. Once you have paid the invoice, it's released to ausPost for delivery.
Americans: just for the record, all we need to do is say "watch, Switzerland, $price" No need to specific case material, jewel count, etc etc
As you are from your nation's Capital, I presume you are learned regarding the intricacies of your taxes and fees.
Border force ( old customs ) Who collect the duty of 10% So to be technically correct it is a Customs Duty even though it is 10% GST
Call me thick, but I've just noticed that Tapatalk doesn't display Omega Forum posts correctly (well, at least on my iPad), so I could only see one link. Anyway, luckily that was the Speedy Pro, which is the one I would have recommended. However, there are good deals to be had on the forums too, so if you miss out on that watch there will be always others. You also won't be paying the eBay final value fee premium, which could offset the GST impost.
I would go for moonwatch for the Prestige, Looks, History and secondary factors of better value retention relatively.
Most likely I'll get the moon watch then. What's everybodys opinion on this. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/352007684974Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
Meh... sapphire sandwich so the crystal is not hesalite and has that grey sort of halo around the edge which looks wrong, the dial also looks more grey through the sapphire. If you want displayback get the 3572.50 which is hesalite front with sapphire back, best of both worlds.
It is but the watches that go to space are hesalite as it will not shatter like sapphire and leave sharp fragments floating around. Also they look different as the sapphire has a different size and distortion effect on the dial. Most prefer the hesalite look.
They might be, however sapphire does scratch, and certainly it is easy to scratch the AR coating. You can't fix this yourself. And it is very costly to replace. Hesalite on the other hand is very inexpensive to replace. Certainly not scratch resistant, but $5 tube polywatch does wonders.
