Yes you are mad. I think these are selling for over $20k! For that kind of cash you can get some very serious watches. Plus, a Speedmaster is supposed to be a "tool watch" and that seems at odds with the gold case. Also, it's not a Speedmaster movement. The Omega 3201 column wheel chronograph movement is actually based on a Piguet 1285 movement.

If you love it, buy it. If you only like it pass. Only you can decide if you want it. Future value, desireability, what it costs now, other peoples opinion........they are really, when all said and done, unimportant. My rule of thumb is that if I really want a watch when I first see it then I wait a bit and see if I still love it and then wait a bit more and see if I still feel the same then I will buy it. If you are going to drop 13 grand on a watch you need to be sure you love it. FWIW, If I were going to spend that kind of money on a watch this one would not be on my radar, it looks like a cheap hooker going for dinner at the Ritz:) ( see what I mean about other people's opinion)

I actually don't mind these and between the enamel dial and the unique movement only ever used in this LE of Speedmaster I think it'll be something quite cool in the future.

Thanks for all the replies worth thinking about. Will have a look at it in the flesh and see if I love it. Would be great if it has future potential as well.

I also liked a yellow gold Rolex date just with the black onyx dial.....

Hey if i had the means I'd buy one. The Seamaster 300 I just bought was the most I've ever spent on a piece. If I had the capital I would have bought the 300 in two tone.

The Cal. 3201 was used in more than just this reference. It was also used in the ref. 51653395002001 museum watch, and some other versions of the 50th LE such as the 31133425001001, the 31163425001002, and the 31163425001003.

    Cheers, Al

I am going to see it next week so I will know whether it is anything special or not. Since I am looking at this the wife wants a piece any suggestions?

    (ok, I'm being nasty :D)

iow ... you take something that was built for one specific purpose and then you do something to make it serve a completely different purpose ...

up to a certain degree also true for this watch ... it is a dress watch ... even if you throw crown protectors on and some waterresistance ... you still dont quite get a sport/beach/yacht/diver watch ...

    I thinks both watches "overstretch"

I get what you're trying to say, but the NOMOS isn't nearly as much of a stretch as the Pink Hummer.

    I agree, Larry:

I still get the vibe "its not quite right"
