Hey guys, I have a watch, recently back from service. Using a dumb little app on my phone to check specs.. well, really just measure whether it's accurate or not by tapping a button when the watch reaches the specified time. It's called WatchCheck for Android. Anyway, just checking now. The app displays 5:45 so I'm supposed to tap the button when my watch hits exactly 5:45. The minute hand on my watch is about half way between 44 and 45 minute markers as the second hand passes 60. Does that make sense? It's like my watch is 30 behind the actual time. Have I discovered a time vortex? Is something misaligned? Thanks! J
It is just a minor hand setting issue (that would piss me off too) The hand was not set correctly when the watch was serviced. Some watchmakers press the hour hand on at a random hour and the minute hand at 60 - personally, I set them all at the top so I know they line up - then put the second hand in position. It is easy to twist a hand when pressing down and this could account for the error. That is the more likely explanation than that the hand has slipped.
It can be done with the second hand moving, but the real issue with non-hacking second is one has to choose between correct time telling of the minute hand or the synchronization between minute and second hands. But who needs to tell accurate time with mechnical watches?
Oooooh, I thought you meant adjust the second hand, which incidentally hacks. I'll see what I can do. If that's all it is, then boy am I not smart.
So it's the Grail. You didn't plug it in the OP.. Not that you're not smart, just sometimes something that's so minute...
Should have specified but didn't think it would matter. Thanks for not making me feel as dumb as I feel already.
You didn't have to. Just that if it were me, I would not waste a chance to brag a bout it.. I think you're still in the stage of admiring it since the euphoria of having acquired the grail is still lingering and you're not really playing with it yet - playing as in taking it apart...
Hmmm, well the tools are starting to accumulate, though I think I'll pick up a, 'crash test dummy' first. 'tis a nice watch... I can see why people like the L5100. Torn between it and the 861 though. I'm just scared of the 321.
