As suggested, I am trying to resist the lure of Dealers, keeping my powder dry and spending some time lurking on Ebay.

When I am ready, are these two reasonable examples for a self confessed novice to be looking at?

Really enjoyed looking at the worst radials ever on the forum, many of which (but not all if I am honest) are obvious even to someone like me.

How about these two, worth buying for someone if and when they are ready?

The first one is better in look and condition but gone already for a price that someone really likes the texture dial. The second one seems original, but got a bit of moisture damages on both the dial and movement. Bids are already ways over what I would consider.

Thanks very much for the reply.

I did spot the marking on the dial (but wondered what it was to my uneducated eye), given the same exists on the same position on the movement that would make sense.

    Thanks again,

    Mike.

You're welcome and welcome to the game of watchspotting. It can be quite fun at times.
