As you may have seen, I'm in the process of thinning the herd. I'm down to 3 sword-hand Seamasters, but can only keep one.

Each of the 3 has something distinctive that I really like: 2230.50 non-AC has the wg bezel and applied symbol; 2250.80 Electric Blue, has that stunning dial; 2254.50 is just plain iconic and beautiful its classic style. Both the 2254.5 and Electric Blue were just serviced, so that expense won't be coming up soon.

Risking the appearance of a WUS thread, I could use some opinions on which one floats to the surface.

Keep the 2254.50, it is the best looking one IMHO :)

    The 2254.50.

    Not even a contest.

If they were mine I would sell all three. Something about the styling of these watches does not excite me in the least. The scalloped bezel with poorly executed numbers, the too busy dial. Too much Disco for a tool watch. But if I had to keep one it would be the black bezel.

I respect that this is your opinion but you are just wrong on so many levels.

I currently have a similar dilemma as I own a few SMP iterations. The market says keep the 2254 and I probably shall keep mine but the WG bezel on the 2 which use that feels very nice in the flesh as the numerals are raised and the 2255 feels like the Bond watch fixed/updated and IMO is superior. It isn't a simple choice. All the sword hands SMPs are winners, this is the watch design Omega threw out in 2008 and the market already realised that they needed replacing so values on all have risen fast. My 2255:

Keep the 2254. It's the best of the three.

Non-AC and it's not even close. Superior dial, bezel allows for dressy-ish duty, and it's ridiculously unique. Of course, I'm biased.

    I pick door No. 3.

While I haven't found any of these Seamasters to be particularly inspiring, there is something about that third one that appeals. May be a combination of that watch's configuration and the good photograph. I'd give it a long second glance if seen on someone's wrist.

Really good points and I wish I could keep all 3. Thanks, all. The 2254.50 is the direction I was leaning but it's good to have others validate my opinion. Look for the other two on the Private Watch Sales board, in the next few days.

You think you have a problem? Here was my situation about 3 months ago, ignore the random straps/bracelets, these are complete sets in various states of undress:

I chose to dispose of the GMT, 2254 and 2265 (quartz on left). I regretted letting the 2254 going so much that I have already replaced it and am back up to 4...

Never bought the GMT. Even though it has sword hands, which I really desire, GMTs, in general, have never appealed to me. They do as little for me as the skeleton hands on a Bond.

Totally agree. I got one to try it out and while I think it worked in isolation, it was a sub optimal SMP, it is fatter, the type has experienced movement issues due to the modular nature and just doesn't wear as well as the 3 hander. I am sorry to say this is likely true of the Great White which is a minor Grail of mine, but is destined to disappoint based on my experience with the GMT above.

Matt bezel insert is solid 18K gold Foo, it isn't just a different finish. It feels really special in the flesh, though they are available for similar money to 2254 and 2255s with the steel insert.

    2255.80

Because I thought long and hard about the sword hands Seamasters and that's the one I bought and have on my wrist now. The 2254 may be advancing more rapidly in cult/collector status, but the Electric Blue is not far behind.

    YMMV

Thanks for that perspective. That's what I was hoping to find out.

    Wtf?
We're collectors, not morticians burying stiffs.
Ask us what to sell, will you!

They are all beautiful in their own way, the blue is unique and an eye-catcher, the last a classic, the first is WG!

Sell your house, rent, and keep them all!
