Hey guys, this Seamaster caught my eye because it has the same coffin markers as my Seamaster 18K XVI. There are no pics of the inside of the watch though. The dial looks vintage to me but almost too clean. Does that make it a service replacement? From the pictures, it looks like there is a shadow at the end of each marker. Can you tell if it is anything else?
Good questions! I asked the seller the exact same thing with no reponse. Here's what he has on the auction. MOVEMENT IS ORIGINAL OMEGA AUTOMATIC, FULL ROTOR NOT BUMPER. I HAVE NOT OPENED THE WATCH TO PHOTOGRAPH AS IT IS IN PERFECT CONDITION, I GUARANTEE ALL IS ORIGINAL.
If he knows it is in "perfect condition" he must have opened the watch, or had someone else do it. Why not take photos then? It is slightly odd as some features look early 1950s but others (the caseback medallion) look much later.
Oooo, an early large medallion! Caliber 500 or 501 most likely, but could even be an earlier 47x / 49x full rotor. It isn't a 2975 because of the bezel being flat and the shape of the lugs. Lotsa franken potential for these. Wait for somebody who has access to AJTT or knows offhand what's up with it.
No idea about the watch but the shadows seem to caused by the light source being on the right hand side of The watch.
Case is very sharp, looks almost NOS. Dial is of original style, fonts look correct. It's probably original, but could be a service replacement. I'd need to see pictures of the inside to make sure everything matches up properly. If it turns out to be all original, it's certainly a condition rarity. gatorcpa
I'm wondering - how much do these 2846's go for, if we're talking head-only? Would potential buyers be coffin' up a large amount of money? $1000?
Still a gamble though because the seller is not willing to respond to questions about the inside of the watch.
