Seamaster serial number

I bought a seamaster professional full-size automatic in 2003 from a jeweller. It has a serial number on the lug and it matches the number on the cards.
The serial number is eight digits and starts: 8044……
If I look up the serial number online it seems to indicate this the year of manufacture is 2006 - three years after I bought it. Should I be worried it may not be genuine?

The online serial lists don’t work. We see a question like this around once a week!

Oh OK. I assumed that because the same serial number list appears in so many places that it was likely correct. Is there a way to confirm the manufacture date against the serial number then? Can omega be contacted directly for this?

Omega won’t help with a watch this new. Online serial number tables are a quess and extrapolation, except for some specific historic models where people have compiled a lot of data.

You bought your watch in 2003, so it was made that year or before. It has a luminova dial, so was not made before 1997. That’s about the best you can do. Your watch is genuine, so don’t worry about it.

Thanks for the reply @Donn Chambers - interesting to hear about the different style of dials. Glad that the watch is the real thing. Funnily enough I had never doubted it’s authenticity until I decided to look up the serial number to see if I could learn more about it!

I’ve had quite a few SMPs, double figures in fact. The serials were in the 55-60m range until around 1999 when they jumped to 80m and stayed there for quite a few years. Yours being 80.4m sounds fine for 2003 to me, I had a 80.2m with 2002 papers and a 80.8m from 2006. Don't sweat it, the pics and serial both show no red flags.

Thanks very much, that’s reassuring to hear.

You own this watch for 20 years. I know the fakes from the beginning of the century and they barely hold integrity for a year or two 😀 As the others wrote already - looks fully legit. Did you ever serviced the watch?

Thanks for the info. I haven’t had it serviced yet, although it has not been worn full-time over the last 20 years. I asked recently at my local dealer, and they said that Omega was currently taking 26 weeks to service watches in the UK, which is just far too long.
