Jumbo 42-mm on 1170 bracelet Cal 565 1970 I believe this reference was produced for only one year, being replaced in 1971 with the nearly identical 166.092 which had the 1002 movement.
Nice & sharp piece, almost like NOS.I like the recessed crown design. Also the striking banana color bezel. Omega doesn't produce this kind anymore.
This is one of those watches that is diametrically opposed to what I like - it's size, it's a dive watch, it's gawdy bright chapter ring - yet I'm strangely attracted to it and seriously consider buying one every time a nice example pops up. Sort of like the Seiko Orange Monster, I can't really figure out what the attraction is.
At 42mm that's a monster for a Seamaster of that era, but having a 5xx rather than a 100x makes it really cool.
Wonder if the case thickness changed when the caliber changed? The 1000 series is noticeably thinner than the 56x series.
Yes, these were only made with a yellow ring. The 166.092 with the 1002 is about a half a millimeter thinner. The main case is exactly the same and actually interchangeable, only the case back is different.
I remember a movie about this when I was a kid , didn't the Big Yeller get rabies and the kid have to shot it?
OK I have some serious questions. The Omega Database, says different dials were available, so how can we say it was only available in yellow? How does this watch differ from the 168.0034 Seamaster that was discussed about a week ago. There is the obvious difference of the 751 chronometer movement verses the standard 565 date. The 168.0034 has a floating movement which, 'I assume' differs from the standard mounting for the 166.0066. Are there any differences in the cases?
Even a casual look will show that 168.0034 is a completely different case design. The database entry is referring to the dial proper and not the minute/second ring and although it says different dials were available, in fifteen plus years of collecting Omega watches I have only seen the silver dial with a yellow ring on ref 166.066 or 166.092.
Sorry for the thread revival, but looking at these at the moment - they also came with a silver bezel from what I've seen...
Is thread revival bad? If it is, I also apologize... I bumped into one of these watches on fleabay and almost immediately hit the buy it now. What a great looking watch! Luckily for me I did a quick forum search, which makes me think this example is a redial with different hands. Black would have been such a great color with that sharp yellow! Too bad... Now I am going to be on the lookout for a different example.
I think if it we’re and was on the yellow bezeled watch, you wouldn’t get the reflections as seen in the picture... I think it’s just a very very monochromatic trio of watches.
