I'm always looking for a new precious one.

And today I found this one. I'm not really into seamasters of that era, more a connie guy. The watch is said to be solid gold. So my first though was, dial looks ok, slightly aged. The S is good, the hands are good. The crown I don't know.

But what about the Red date ? I've never seen any previously...
So I'm wondering is it like some rolex, a black and red date for even and odd numbers ? Or some repair part ?
I should have a picture of the case back any time soon

    No. Red 5 = Speed Racer's Mach 5!

I've not seen red numerals on an Omega before, but there's always a first time.

The calendar wheels from that time would not likely be interchangeable with other brands, as Omega movements were totally in-house then.

Eddie Shack for the NY Rangers in 1959 and 60...Red, white and blue 5!

Both Rolex and Tudor made watches with red date wheels; not seen an Omega, in person or in pics.

    Here's the case back.
So what do you guys think ?
Solid gold or ST good caped ? Early 50s, probably bumper caliber ? DSC04533.JPG

It's not gold capped or it would be a stainless steel back. There are no hallmarks on the back side of the lugs so it's probably a gold filled case.

Not a bumper - a full rotor caliber 503 most likely.

Personally, I'd pass on it since it's not in great shape at all. Maybe I'd buy it as a parts watch if the price was cheap enough, say, under $150.

    Thanks Dennis !

Lesson of the day learned, it is not because one option is rare, that makes a watch the real deal.

I'm curious to see inside. I'd like to know if it is solid gold or not for sure. I doubt it, and not just from the lack of hallmarks. Looks like there's a little wear through on the ends of the lugs.

..... and sometimes one uncommon option can make a watch a lot more valuable and desired than it's more common cousin. ;)

It was already such a tough negociation for this caseback picture, and I don't know why...
But sadly I guess I won't be able to get an inside picture
