I'm thinking about getting a Seamaster Professional 300m Ceramic but can't decide between the Black or the Blue! I really do like both and the salesman in Goldsmiths agreed it is a tough choice and suggested I should take the two! On the face of it, this seems like a good idea but I don't think I could get financial clearance from my wife so I'm stuck in my dilemma. Blue is unusual and pops but will it look dated in a few years time? Also, I don't think the colours of Omegas Nato straps go with it and you are limited with other strap options because of the colour. However, my wife prefers the blue as she thinks it will be in contrast to my Speedy Pro. I think the Black looks more classy and I don't think it will ever look dated. Also, I could use my current black Nato on it then anymore Nato straps that I buy would have double use with my Speedy, and at some point there is also the Omega black rubber strap. It all makes sense, but then I do like the blue one!!!!!! How do I decide?
In these situations if you are thinking of why you should not buy one then you have probably already decided Once you buy it you will be happy no matter which one you choose.
I agree black one is more versatile, more options in clothing and leather / NATO bands. Blue probably be more rare as think more people opt for the black. I'm kind of bias towards black as my 50th anniversary Bond has the black dial and ceramic bezel : But either color is gorgeous, so you can't go wrong!
The blue was the original colour when the Seamaster Professional 300M was introduced in 1993. The black has always been the variant on this model. For what it's worth, the Bond watches in the movies, from GoldenEye to Casino Royale, were all blue. That's sort of the iconic colour for this watch (although the black is great too).
I perfer it in black with the new style ceramic, I own an older blue bond version with wave dial. I dont care for the newer blue color with glossy dial. For me, black all the way, it looks very classy. Seriously considering a black ceramic SMP 300 myself. Regards Brandon
A blue watch is a must in every collection, get the blue - there are plenty options for a black one as your next watch....
I went black and love it. Blue I'd like more if it had the wave patterned dial. Here's mine on different configurations. I agree the blue is not as flexible. Maybe get a new black one and a second hand blue bond with wave dial?
Thanks everyone for the advice, both look great but I think I'm leaning more towards the black. I'd be interested to see more strap options with the black ceramic? Nobel Prize, what makes are your straps?
The better Nato's I have are from cheapestnatostraps.com and tafstyle. Stay away from Da Luca, really bad quality (the very last one is Da Luca and you can actually see the quality is bad.) The black Zulu is Taf Style and the other Natos cheapestnato.com. Great selection at cheapestNato. The Rubber with white stitching is $75 at timepiecerepublic and it comes with the deployant buckle. very good quality for the price. The leather one is actually a Bell&Ross style strap from Timeonhand $89. The dog did not come with it.
Blue is the classic SMP color, and it's been more than 20 years and it still doesn't look dated. Cons - incredibly hard to find a good looking strap
Well, black leather bands look very nice on blue wave SMP's; here is my 2221 with black Omega leather band: Not sure about the blue ceramic on black, though
Both are great, but I wold only go for the wave dial blue. otherwise black. the Wave Dial makes all the difference. A little like the Aqua Terra Pattern.
I would go blue - its what attracted me to my original Brosnan in the first place. But if you really think you are undecided - flip a coin. When it lands you will actually feel satisfied or secretly disappointed... then you know what to do...
Hi Everyone, thanks for helping me make this decision - Thought you might like to know that I've placed an order for the Black Ceramic! Should get it in about 10 days so will post a picture. Someone had commented above that you need a blue faced watch in your collection and I agree so have said to my wife that I should celebrate my 60th in seven years time with a Blue Hour Vision, mind you the two tone Silver/Black bulls eye Hour Vision look good as well....... here we go again!!! I'll be pondering for the next 7 years!
