Hi,
I have a question concerning the production date of a blue bond SMP ref. 2531.8 I bought recently without papers. I have a 49XXXXXX serial number on the lug which doesn't make sense because these serial corresponds to mid 80's. Am I considering the wrong serial number ?
I don't think the watch is fake but can't rule out this possibility. The watch also has a small star inside a lug.

Thank you!

How about a photo. I hear it's worth 1000 words.

You're right !
the serial number is located on the 7 o'clock lug and the star on the 5 o'clock.

Serial suggests and early Auto SMP, from 1994-1996 with tritium dial. Omega serials don't run all that sequentially in the late 80s early 90s. The star functions as an internal quality control and has no real significance outside the factory.

Also, I believe Omega didn't start etching the serial on the lugs until the 90s, which corroborates padders' info.
