Seamaster Professional 200m

I have an older (mid 1980s) Seamaster that needs a movement. It was my father’s daily wear, and has all the brushes and bruises to show such. In his last years, in his Alzheimer’s, he “wound” the watch relentlessly, literally burning up the works.

I’ve seen a few nos movements around, a few “replacements” that seem to be new production remakes. They are priced appropriately but I’m wondering …………

My question is, does anyone know if there is a mechanical/automatic movement that is the correct size to fit this case?

TIA

Do you have pictures of the exact Seamaster 200m?

It is currently disassembled

Are you sure this was originally an automatic. Looks like the quartz model since it does not state Automatic on the dial.

No, it is indeed a quartz watch, a 1441 movement. Nothing wrong with them, they are some of the nicest. As stated, I have seen a few oem’s and replacements.

I would prefer a mechanical/automatic movement is the reason for the question.

You are asking to convert a quartz Omega Seamaster 200m with a loose automatic movement for the Seamaster 200m, which would be the Cal 1111. However, there are a few issues you might encounter. The dial has different feet for different movements and the case size could be a factor as the Omega Seamaster 200m came in a 38mm and 40mm case. If you are not going to replace the dial with one that says Automatic, then I guess you can use any automatic movement that fits your case. It's going to be franken anyways.

No you can’t easily convert it so don’t bother to try. The case is different between auto and quartz. Not on diameter, both auto and quartz came in 36mm and 40mm size, but in caseback depth and the size of the movement holder. The date window placement is different too. Just get an appropriate ETA quartz movement for the case and you can get it working. You need the equivalent of the 1441, 1438 or 1538.

Thank you both very much for the information. I will look for a 1111 movement to get measurements off of. I would be using the original dial as I want it still be “Dad’s Daily”

As well it is good to know I can broaden my ability to find a quartz movement now knowing that a 1438-1538 can work.

I have hand scrubbed 40yrs of working guy arm crud off of it, and have found a used bracelet link, other than that I’m leaving it be and plan to wear it daily for the rest of my days

See above, you wont be able to use the original dial. The date window is in the wrong place. This really is an impossible project. You'll need to change most of the watch to go auto. Much easier to find a suitable quartz movement.

And the price for the 200m is not unreasonable. Can find an auto for $2k, quartz for much much less. Honestly, getting a used quartz would cost the same as trying to find just the quartz movement.
