Looking for insights/advice from the forum on the authenticity of the seamaster below. The dial seems to me to have to have been refinished with how clean it is. OVDB cal check seems to check out, but as per normal, I tend to approach these things from a position of near absolute skepticism first, and then work to reverse my thinking with research and the help of others. That said, the price is right for me so if this seems legit, I'm seriously considering going in.

 

It's difficult to judge that dial with such a fuzzy picture, though if forced to say one way or another I'd go for ok. There are plenty of original dials that age and older in mint condition so that's not really a criterion.

 

Perhaps you can provide a better photo of the dial. With what I see, there is nothing wrong. Is the clean condition of the dial your only evidence? If that was the case, you would be calling an awful lot of well-preserved pieces radials. With this one, I see a clean, dial, clean movement and very clean case, all indicating a properly stored watch that has seen minimal use and abuse. These sparkle dials were underappreciated for quite some time but prices have climbed over the past few years.

Looks like a nicely preserved original watch, including the dial.

If as it looks it is a sparkle dial then they are often in very good condition. I doubt these are easy to refinish well. Even based on those poor pics, I think that watch is fine.

Here is another, a 166.032 same as above, fully original.

That watch you commented on elsewhere isn’t the same watch, it has a flat silver/grey dial and a German date wheel. Both are nice tho!

 

Sorry - You’re right but the other is a Spanish date wheel

 

This explains why I have so much trouble ordering a beer when I travel!

 

If the price is OK for you - go for it as it looks like a nice watch

All - Sincere thanks for weighing in on this one - always great to find some positive consensus on a nice piece. The price ended running up above where I was willing to take it (for good reason apparently based on the feedback here). Will be keeping my eyes open for another example of this nature, and will definitely post here again for sober (or at least half sober) second eyes when I come across one.

 

Fantastic looking watch. Makes me want to go for one even more now.
