Hi all, currently becoming very interested in starting a proper watch collection and Omega has gotten my attention :). I have my eye on a Speedmaster Pro and have also seen what looks like a beautiful Seamaster De Ville automatic but the seller has not stated the year but did state the dial has been reworked etc. Could someone help identify the year for me and would it be a good purchase for just over £300? I have tried google and looked at about 200 images but can’t find one to match which is worrying me slightly .

Redial. Doesn't matter how much it costs to most of us after that, unless it's needed for parts.

Fantasy redial. Is it from Korea?

From a collecting standpoint it has no real value due to the dial but if you like it, at least it's not hugely expensive

As others have indicated the dial makes this watch undesirable to many but if you like it then the value is your decision to make. In terms of age then you need to get the serial number on the movement which can only be seen once the case has been opened.

If the year it was made matters, it should fall between 1963 and 1967, if in fact it was a DeVille before the redial (which it probably was given the case style).

I like the look of it for a dress watch, I’m a sucker for blue dials lol. My main interest is the Moonwatch but I would like a dress watch too. Realistically is it worth about £300 with the redial (which seems to be reasonably well done) if the case and movement are from a genuine Omega Seamaster?

There is no movement shot on the ebay listing that I have seen which is always an issue and nothing in the description beyond “Swiss” and “Automatic” as far as I could see. It’s currently got 6 days to go and is at £243 now so may go past your £300 estimate ( don’t forget added import tax at 20% if bringing in to uk also).
Value is what you are prepared to pay given the evidence but I would skip.

Hadn’t thought about the duty, I asked for a movement pic and if none posted I’ll skip I think. Thanks for the help.

There are tonnes of these blue redial DeVilles/Cosmics etc coming out of Korea. As redials go, they're better than the average job, but still a modern reprint. I'm a vintage collector so I wouldn't pay £100 for it. Personal preference.

It does seem to be very well done and maybe as a dress piece I may go for it as still better looking than the modern fashion watches I’ve seen. Like I said my real interest is a Speedy Pro. I’m not a collector (currently lol) as I have always wanted the Moonwatch for decades as I’m a massive NASA fan. But once I started reading up on watches I have started to get an interest which could be a dangerous thing for me.

@Skyline69 - I, too, was hunting for a 1960s SMDV. I learned quickly that there’s much debate here on OF about the manufacturing years of SMDVs. Turns out they were made up until the early 1970s. I hope the link below helps.

The folks who have commented here have years more experience than I do and their expertise is valuable. Still, I’ll offer my humble assistance: I think the attached link will help steer you in the right direction - and away from technicolor dials. (FWIW, I like the blue dial just not on Omegas. When I was 10, my parents bought me a cool Timex with that same color dial. Wish I had it today. Seriously.)

Thanks for all the help folks! Acting on the advice given here I am not going to purchase this. I will undoubtedly be a nuisance again once a Speedy Pro comes into view lol.

The case looks like a early to mid 60s one IMO as it has straight lugs

Skyline. I see this finally sold well above your £300 estimate at £633. I hope you stayed well clear?
