    All,

I just spent too much money (~$450) getting my grandfather's Seamaster Cosmic being serviced, and having a split stem (among other things) repaired. It had all original parts.

After getting it returned, the crown is now a non-Omega, simple round crown (the old crown was non-salvageable)

Am I being too picky at the crown being replaced with one that was Non-Omega? (The repair shop is a jewelry repair shop in a local mall) I didn't notice this until I got the watch home and wore it for a day.

    Thanks all

No, that is not too picky. I

Did they return the 'non-salvageable' crown to you?

No, they did not return the broken crown to me.

The broken crown was original, and here is a photo of the current crown:

It doesn't look like the crowns are even that expensive

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=omega seamaster cosmic part&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xomega seamaster cosmic crown.TRS0&_nkw=omega seamaster cosmic crown&_sacat=0Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

Other than the cost between an Omega & Non-Omega crown (which seems to be not much at all) is there a reason why they'd have replaced it with a non-omega crown? When I go to speak with them, I imagine that he will mention something about it being tough to get old parts, and that is all they could find for this watch, or that it wouldn't be compatible with the rest of the parts in the watch.

    "local mall"?

Honestly, if you have an heirloom watch that deserves proper care the local mall is the last place you should go to.

No offence to them, they probably thought it was a decent repair to use a Bestfit crown (and it would be to the average guy).

But honestly, it's just like getting your 1938 BMW 328 serviced at KMart Auto.

Take it to an Omega specialist or even an Omega service centre.

Yea, I messed up big time taking it to a jewelry place in a mall (stomach churning). What's done is done though :(

Never mind, save up your pennies and get it done properly in the future. Even if you use an Omega service centre the cost far outweighs the satisfaction of having the true watch your GF had (with a few improvements).

Thank you very much for the advice. This was a good learning experience for me. I live in upstate NY, so there aren't a lot of local Omega repair places.
