Thanks! In fact it was my first vintage Omega and it didn’t look like this when I bought it. I sent it for servicing ca 2018 and was told the dial was damaged and had to be restored. So I said yes do it and this is how it came back. Now I know that for a rare piece this would have been totally detrimental to the value. But this watch is nothing special per se and I have it for joy and not as an investment, so I am really happy with how it looks now 😀

The ‘m’ in Seamaster missing its leading stem and the lower case letter ‘s’ not rising above the cross bar of the letter t in the same word makes me think this might unfortunately be a redial… that being said I may be wrong, and either way it’s still a very pretty dial.

Hi all,

Looking for the story behind the Cosmic series I stumbled upon this thread. This spring I won a Cosmic through an auction on Catawiki. The watch is in great condition and runs at about -10s per week.

I absolutely love it. I love the applied Omega logo, the indices that at the same time are shiny (sides), brushed and black, the sunburst dial that just slightly yellowed (with little spots only visible in certain lights). Most of the photos show the cheapish strap it came with. I've since replaced it with a croc leather strap (visible on one photo).

Hi all!

I recently inherited a 166.026 after my granddad, a watch he used as a daily driver from 1969 and into the early 1980s. This is the Seamaster Cosmic model with gold plated polished case, date and golden sunburst dial with crosshair. I currently don't have a very good picture of it, since it's currently in for service (given the timeframe it was in daily use, I expect that if it was serviced at some point in the past at all, it must have been at most only once).

One question I have, about the case. There is some pitting where the gold plating has wore off on the edges, especially on the back. I mean, it has some grooves where the back edges would normally be. I have also seen this type of pitting in some other photos on here, some quite worse than on mine, but I still think that the grooves look a bit deep. I wondered if there is some intermediate material that easily wears away between the gold plate and the brass base on the back of these, or if the brass itself that is just prone to wear. Should I be worried wearing this too much after I get it back from service?

Regarding my previous post, I what I mean with "pitting" is the type of wear which can be seen on the case back of the watch in this thread:

Mine isn't gone that far, but it has the same type of deep grooves on the edges where the plating is worn through.

Recent addition for me, & getting more than its fair share of wrist-time...

Manual wind, 135.00017 case ref.

The cal 601 is its own work of art (although seldom seen, sealed up in the monobloc case).

Hello all!
Applying for membership!

I’ve just been given my first Seamaster Cosmic. Passed down from my father in-law.
All the hints in the world for a proper bracelet are more than welcome as the original is lost to time.

Purchased a 166.026 on eBay a few months ago. I replaced the crystal with an original Omega including tension ring and did a quick service, although it was running okay. I also picked up an Omega Tool 107 which needed a bit of a repair that I can explain in another forum if anyone is interested. I don't know who the inscribed "David" is, but provides a date reference for what appears to be a "well loved/used" watch.

Just joined the forum and applying for Cosmic club membership
I’ve had this GP 166.036 for about 15 years , but haven’t really worn it since it was serviced in 2011 . Dug it out along with the 34mm last week .
It’s on the original 1068 bracelet and it was looking very tarnished after years of neglect .
I was amazed how well it cleaned up after a rub with a silver cloth

Applying to the club after having found my grand dad’s ref. 136.017 (cal. 613, gold-plated) after my mother’s passing a few years ago. Decided to fix it up as the glas and crown are not original, and the watch is just in general need of a service.

Now to my question: what are the chances to find a proper replacement crown? My watch guy has the proper glas but I’m interested in finding a proper crown. Is there an article number I should be looking for?
