Yes , while this was a serious collector piece ( so much so that several "pro's" here were beat out on the price), you can see that you got a lot of value for your money
Watch was in nice condition, very uncommon textured dial, and the desirable cal. 352 bumper chronometre movement. I would estimate 1% of seamasters were chronometres and of that 1% less than 1/3 will have the cal. 352 movement and of those only 10% or so will have an original textured dial. Plus this dial is not only original but has a rare placing of the dial script. Essentially, the only one of its kind I've seen on ebay in the past 4-5 years or so and worth probably even more than the price it went for.
The vast majority of Seamasters are not chronometers, my 2627 is solid gold, with a solid gold dial, and even it isn't a chronometer, just a plain vanilla non-adjusted Cal 353. So a Seamaster chronometer is special in and of itself, but the 352 having the RG regulator makes it a step cooler than a Swan Neck regulated chronometer, like in the Cal 501 or Cal 354 in a Constellation, and considerably less common. I've seen a gold-cap Cal 354 Seamaster chronometer sell locally at a dealer in Brisbane, I've never seen a Cal 352 RG regulator Seamaster in person. The RG regulator doesn't really improve the watch technically, its no better or worse than the Swan Neck, but its cool, different and a bit special, all worth points.
Not so much that it's a chronometer, it's the caliber 352 that makes that watch. There are plenty of 354 chronometers available. Depending on the model and reference, you can safely assume a 352 will add $800 to $1500 dollars to the value of a watch if it's original & correct.
Then you've also got people in this world like Dennis ^^^ who at one point wanted to collect one example of every movement in the 3xx and 5xx series from memory. Which is sort of like wanting to date a woman from every starsign until you've completed the set... I'm still stuck on my third Virgo
Yes, but I changed my mind. I often change my mind. I'm fickle. More like from each country of a specific continent. If you find something that works stick with it.
IT DOESNT WORK, Virgo's are awful!!! Wait, it was me that said this thread needed to stay on topic wasn't it... ok, I'm going to split the Seamaster 352 discussion off into its own thread..
That one goes to a collector in VN, I guess. The reason I did not go for it just because I already have one with the same script in 14K solid, which I bought from a gentleman everybody knows who he is The one on eBay Mine
I know I've said this before, but... Hey, hey, HEY!!! I resemble that remark. My birthday was last Saturday. I'm not awful. At least I don't think so, gatorcpa PS - I'm very pleasently surprised by the price brought by this example. Makes me glad I picked up my cal. 352 Ref. 2517 a few years ago when prices were low. A fellow collector contacted me about a cal. 352 Globemaster that sold on eBay last week for around $700. The watch is in working condition, missing a critical but replaceable piece, but he still got it for less than the value of the movement, IMO.
I don't think Ashley is interested in dating you, gator. So belated happy birthday and don't sweat it.
No, certainly not. That said, if he has a daughter that likes Australian accents, and lets face it, all American chicks do...
That was a nice one, I think the price was fair considering the condition of the watch and the movement.
