·I seem to have developed a soft spot for Seamasters, new and old. Do you know of a book with the history and variants of this model since its commercial beginnings in 1948?

This one will not answer your need of history & information (Was disappointing on that respect). But it is basically a very nice pictures books 😀 and can be a nice complement to some more serious.
I'll follow the info/answers of the others with some interest hoping the books are not going to be too pricey...
From Seamaster to Seamaster, the first 70 years.
Got a second hand one on eBay for 40euros.
