A year ago, I posted a thread regarding my dad's misplaced Seamaster. And recently, I was able to find it. And as I was expecting, it won't run, but the date and time function is still adjustable. I mistakenly mentioned on the thread that the cause of the drop was a spring bar failure, but it actually is because of the shark mesh bracelet's clasp (They slip). Now let's get on to my question, What are the differences between these two following photos? The first one is the actual watch in my possession, and the other one's from the internet, and the most notable differences I see is the 12 o'clock markers, and the bezel. Now what I'm thinking is that, maybe mine is an earlier model year than the other one, but some photos on the internet has for example: the same dial that mine has but has the bezel from the one on the latter photo, or vice versa. I just cant help but wonder why they're different.
The internet version is a Watchco or service parts version with modern service parts. Yours has the original acrylic bezel and Tritium dial and looks lovely to me.
Aha, so those with one piece 12 o'clock markers and lume dot on the the bezel have service parts then. Thanks!!
No... there are multiple variations and that criteria is not definitive. I think the OP watch might be a service dial also. It looks like luminova to me but I’m not an expert on these.
I am very confident your dial is original. It has very nice creamy indices. But it’s easy to check. Put it under a light then go somewhere dark. Is it glowing strongly after more than 30 seconds. No Tritium, Yes Luminova service dial. The hands are almost always the first thing to be changed out, and yours also look very original.
Well, after half a minute, there is still a small amount of glow coming from the dial, though doesn't last as long as the lume from a 90's seiko that I tested it alongside with. The bezel's lume quickly fade out,
A very nice looking watch. The hands appear to be replacement parts as well if those still grow that bright after a minute.
Correct, they aren’t even. I’ve seen the same unevenly split 12 hour markers on other examples with original dials. The service dials don’t have the split. Google image search will give you tons of pictures. The baby ploprof has a really cool 70’s vibe. Enjoy the hell out of it.
Well the lume photo isn't how it appears after that given amount of time, the photo was shot just after the light was turned off. Here's a photo of the lume roughly 20 seconds after the light was turned off, a 90s seiko diver on the left, the seamaster on the right.
