Hi, I recently sold my first Omega, a 166.0202 speedmaster which I loved, and am now on the hunt for my next. A friend has really got me into the Omega brand and I sold my watch hoping to purchase a speedmaster 600. I have found one, a ref 135.011 that should be obtainable inside my £400 budget. I wondered if anyone could provide advice on this potential purchase as I am concerned about the patina on the case and if I can fix this, I have read that polishing is a bad idea so I wondered what the best action would be. Also I am open to other suggestions for my next purchase, thank you.
Seamaster* I don’t follow prices on these closely but that seems a bit steep. Regarding the case, you could use a hand polishing cloth to remove the tarnish if you would like. It shouldn’t dull the edges much but be careful not to take too much gold off or else you’ll hit steel. Not sure how thick the plating was on these. Edit: I’d also want a clear straight-on photo of the dial. Something about the color of the dial and the thickness of the text throws me off.
Thank you, it is in a local(ish) auction, not ebay, so I can not be sure of the hammer price. Guide is £140 to £180 but every watch I have tried seems to go over the estimate. I was drawn to the dial as it seems in good condition to me? and the 611 is a reliable movement from what I have read. Does anyone have an idea of what a good/fair price would be for this please?
No idea where my glasses are but there's something very off about that "600" on the dial. It looks like the font is way too big. Someone with better eyes comment before I find me bins?
I don't think it's redialed so much as just wrong. Here's one I sold last week: Judge for yourselves but this one came from an estate; one owner; and, great original condition.
I like yours Jimmy, the arab dial option was a UK market special I believe and appeals to me greatly. I had one in 9K I sold a while back. Even if it is original, and I guess it may well be, I can't say I like the OP watch at all
Okay, I will leave this one. Dial seems to be in a lot better condition than the case too, but I guess this is possible when the seal holds.
You can still find very nice examples on ebay for EUR 350-450. Needs a bit of patience but 600's were produced in high volumes.
You can definitely find good examples for 350€. I bought my brother one for £310 not too long ago, complete with BoR. They're a great first vintage watch as they're cheap, readily available, come with a range of dial styles and have the excellent 600 series movements.
Thanks all, I appreciate the help. Well done David, hope it is a good one. I have been trying to avoid eBay really, do you think this is necessary? Or is it quite safe to buy from there?
