Hi again. A local seller has said that this Seamaster 600 was tested and came back as 18k white gold...did this model come in such a case? Unfortunately he can't open the back so I don't have a ref. #

18k white gold watches should always have the hallmarks that others have referred to, you can see it here on this IWC hodinkee sold. The last 2 photos, show the gold hallmark on the top left lug, and then on the caseback (750 purity 18k white gold)

Ok sounds good. Suppose the white gold case belongs to this reference. How much would it cost in the grey market?

Grey market usually refers to brand new watches, we would be talking about the used or second hand market here.
And if this watch were gold it would be worth a little more than the melt value of the gold it was made from. But as we have pointed out it is steel not white gold. Do you not find it strange that the seller has said he has tested it for gold but is unable to open the back to see the movement?

For sure. I moved on anyways. He even texted me a video of himself testing the metal with a stone and what he claims to be acid. I asked him to look for hallmarks and he ignored that request. Whatever...I lost interest in the watch half way through but I was just trying to help him out in case he's ignorant, but it smelled fishier and fishier by the end of it

You can test gold on a black stone but of course there is no acid used in the process.
In Thailand jewellers use a local black stone which they rub the gold across. The thickness of the gold resudue tells the jeweller how much gold is in the piece being tested.
I don't see that working with white gold.

I have not seen anything similar in white gold my self, im still fairly "novice" but i would say its SS.
Like others have said, if it were gold it would be worth slightly more than the scrap gold value at the time.
