My father inlaw has given me his Seamaster 166.002 to find out about. He got it from his Dad and as far as I know it hasn't been touched. It looks like its gold plated but showing its age! Not sure if the spots on the dial can be cleaned? 2015-09-18 12.02.56.jpg 2015-09-18 12.03.08.jpg 2015-09-18 12.12.17.jpg 2015-09-18 12.13.40.jpg 2015-09-20 11.26.12.jpg

Would like any info on its history, guess its 65/66 form the 25 serial no. and wondering if he should get serviced as STS aren't cheap? He still wears it now and again and would never part with it.

Tried to search for info on it but there are so many variants so can't find the same model. There doesn't seem to be a dedicated web site for Seamaster autos?Any help gratefully appreciated

I think, from looking at the inside of the caeback, it's a reference 166.002 which does have a cal 565 and is a very good movement and a good workhorse type of watch. There are a couple of people who post here and are in the UK who'll service it more cheaply than STS. If you search around the forum you'll find them.

I own the same reference except mine has a cal.560 with luminous dial/hands. I doubt the spots can be removed from the dial without damage so you might want to leave it as is. Crown looks to be a replacement also. I think a service, no polishing except for the crystal would make it look a lot better..

I recommend @stefan from the forum who is in london and a watch maker. He serviced my Omega Geneve and when the time comes he will service my two Seamaster.
