I recently aquired this bumper automatic with the red second hand. I was wondering if anyone else has a 50's bumper with a red second hand as I would like to know if this is an original hand. Thanks for looking btw I have a replacement crown on the way
I'll let the expert collectors confirm this, but my feeling is that hand is a modern generic hand - I have a selection of these for replacing hands when needed on modern watches and it's a common shape you get in a hand assortment... Cheers, Al
How's this one. It is NOS and came with red hand. I believe that the hand on your watch is a replacement, but that the original may well have been red. Here are a few others. View attachment 20141
Thanks for your replies and those wonderful examples cicindela. I'm pretty convinced it's an aftermarket none omega part now. I would prefer a more original sweep hand but the trouble is trying to get a red one of this length seems difficult. Would anyone have any ideas?
Sorry, I'm being a bit of a smartarse! cicindela is steve - who posted all of those pics. I think all of his are attached to watches, and he isn't about to let them go.
I looked but didn't see any red ones at all for vintage omegas. It's also kind of annoying that the 351 sweep hands are about $15 but the only shipping option is $53.21 to Ireland.
They must not be too concerned about looking after us low volume users with shipping charges like that. And they don't accept Paypal
I don't know if Kyle or I have dibs on that puppy first. I'm probably second because I want his pink gold capped caliber 551 Constellation.
You buy and send it to one of the members in NY/NJ and we'll send it on. If you call them you can send via standart post to in US.
Thanks Steve, I am trying to put together a database of all the known authentic Seamaster scripts with the case ref/ years they come from. AFIK, there is nowhere on the net that we can go to for referencing potential purchases and the OVD is too incomplete with many poor or incorrect pics. There has been heaps of work done on Constellations but not much out there about the Seamaster.
Then this may be of interest, one of the members on WUSOF seems to have some expertise there. http://forums.watchuseek.com/f441/1961-seamaster-redail-873871.html
Well, that was me bored on a Sunday evening mate, I wouldn't call it expertise but I am interested in the various fonts used. I think this is a better place to do some work on a decent database while we still have plenty of good original dials about to take decent pics of, and of course the knowledge base here is pretty amazing. It would make one hell of a resource IMO.
What is the case number of the watch - I'll see if Omega still has these. Long shot, but might get lucky. Cheers, Al
Er . . . Why not just buy the correct length gold hand and paint it red? Just need a 000 sable brush and a pot of model-maker's paint . . . J
