Looked at the Pelagos LHD the other day but have to say I thought the quality left a little to be desired... have you considered a five digit Sea Dweller?

Congrats on your black ceramic GMT - now a collectors item!

I was able to check out a 2017 and 2018 Seamaster side by side.

First off the weight of the older one is much lighter which is a plus. It also has a more conservative look as the blue is darker. I really liked the watch and of course it's several hundreds of dollars less than the new one. So if this qualities are important to you it's a great option.

The newer one has the ceramic which won't fade, has an improved moment which you can also see from the back which is very nice. The size is not that much of a difference, it the number size on the rotary dial stands out more. I like the number size on the older one better. However I like the lighter blue color and waves for a sport dress watch better on the new one. Both are great watches.

Just out of curiosity I looked at the Rolex Submariner in Blue and it pops also like the newer Seamaster.

I had both..... and recommend the older wave dial over the SMPc iterations 😀

Why? What do you prefer, the darker blue color that is more conservative, the date on the right side?

The older Seamaster is less thick, specially the ones running on caliber 1109 or 1120. In addition the wave dial gives it more contrast than the plain, mirror like finish of the following generation. The best of both worlds would be an older wave dial (as not a fan of the newer style with date at 6) with the ceramic bezel of the SMPc; I built one from parts but sold it a while ago ::facepalm1::

I am a big fan of the older wave-style dials.
had one with the 2500 coax movement and one with a 1120 cal.
i kept the 2254 because i think its a bit less shiny, very thin for a diver and has the most amazeing lume. it stays on my wrist day and night 😀

A very beautiful 2500 SMP:

But my winner is 2254:

I'm now thinking about getting the older Seamaster due to it being less bulky and not so heavy on my wrist. I'm glad I'm taking my time and thinking this purchase carefully before pulling the trigger. There are still the pros of the new one however that I am considering.

Yes, being rocked by someone else! ::facepalm1::

A black SMPc case with the non AC dial should look really nice too!

Older style wave dials are awesome.......

But then am biased 😉

Just a FYI in case you didn't realize it, but the last-gen model also has a ceramic bezel. So it won't fade either. I have the last-gen model in blue and REALLY like it -- the blue can change from a very dark to very light, depending on the lighting. The applied logo also gives it a bit of bling. I recently compared to one of the new ones at an AD and was not impressed by the wave dial, or how much thicker and heavier it was. And don't get me started on the even bigger Helium release valve.

The new movement is nice and I think the placement of the date is better. The new hands are nicer, too. But overall, I prefer the last-gen. FWIW, I had one of the older 1120-based versions with the wave dial. I never liked it that much and think the glossy ceramic dial is nicer. So I am biased. 😀

One other thing, you are more likely to get a deep discount on the last-gen model from an AD than on the new model. They want to clear inventory.

That looks fantastic! I would really like to do this. Were you able to fit the bezel assembly from a 212.30.41.20.03.001 onto a 2220.80 without making any adjustments?

No, didn’t try that, understand the bezel assembly of the SMPc does not fit the older 2220.80 or the 2531 SMP’s

I wandered into a local AD today wearing my 2255.80 and tried on a couple of the newest wave dial Seamasters. Whilst they are handsome watches, the proportions of my 2255.80, especially the slimmer profile, meant they simply did not work for me. Still, horses for courses and all that 😀

*edit* gratuitous photo added 😁

I have one like yours and love it! Some people recommend you keep what you have, done that you upgrade, I say buy or keep what you like.

Try them on, get a feel for comfort, quality, etc.

What he said

Oh man! I like that black bezel on the black dial! It’s a looker.

This forum is not helping my watch buying abstinence, hahahahaha!
