The blue bezel insert has the same typeface as the 120 one but the bezels themselves are not interchangeable (the inserts could be swapped over but that’s a very tricky thing to do without damaging them.)
However, we have documented enough blue examples to make it very likely that the bezels left the factory like that although they are most often seen fitted to 0552 military models not civilian ones.

So one random person posts on the internet that it there were blue bezels installed on Seamaster 300s that look suspiciously like the bezel from a 166.073.

Must be true. I take back any suspicions I have.

;]

maybe youre right, but why should people do it and how since 165.024 & 166.073 bezels are not interchangable?

OP, about your price question - do you want to sell the watch for this price, or to buy it (unfortunately from the context of your questions I can not tell)?

I would have doubts to buy this watch based on the way the case was opened in the past. This isn't giving me a confidence what care this watch have seen over the years if someone could scratch it so bad by opening.

The watch is not mine, I'm considering buying it. You're right about the back, seem like an auto mechanic was opening it at some point but I've seen much worse examples. Considering it's the tool watch 55+ years old it does not look too bad...

One big dealer’s opinion on a “blue” insert:

CONDITION REPORT: The bezel has discolored over time to a stunning navy blue color and is intact without any cracking…

Thanks to everybody!

I've found this link too, might be interesting:

There are too many blue bezels all around the world to be a random project of some watch enthusiast, they all look like they are period pieces, and we have zero idea what can it be other than "faded black" or a less common blue variation. Anyway, this bezel is visually nice (IMO) and in pretty good condition. The crown seems to be naiad type but I can't see the three pointed star on it, maybe just the photo is blurry. Back of the watch is scratched, but as it's a tool watch it could be much worse. As I can see the hands are correct, the second hand is "short" as it should be with a sword hand set, the dial is good looking, lume is nice and even, I see no traces of corrosion inside... but I'd appreciate your opinion. At $8700 USD the watch is not cheap, but is it too expensive for what it is? Do you think I should take it or should I wait for a better one?

Thanks again! 👍

Achim did give his opinion of this on the first page.
Walk away. Too expensive in today's market
However, you can choose to do with that as you’d like. 👍

Roger that. Any idea what would be a fair price for a 165.024 in similar condition?

I've seen bezels only for >$2k on ebay. People are asking crazy money for those, let's hope it will go down. Just an example:

If it's an army issued watch, shouldn't "T" be on a dial? 😕

Dealer's gotta eat and the boat payment is due........

I'd rather they eat hamburger and use a row boat and pay accordingly.
