i am considering a purchase of a 2008 model in great condition. Traditionally gone for auto but don't want to spend too much on a diver, hence the Quartz. Comes with it's box/papers. Have been told these are becoming a little rare (in this condition and the drive for auto movements). Any thoughts? I am about to let my Tudor BB go as I find it too chunky, and this seems to fit the bill, size and reliability wise, and think it looks wonderful. Any opinion appreciated. image.jpeg

That is in pretty good condition, those polished bezel inserts do scratch up easily so that has either been well refurbished or just well cared for. I think there is a place for a grab and go like this in every collection. The quick set hour hand is useful for international travel also. I do like mine, I tend to wear one of the auto variants more but the quartz is a keeper for now. IMO that is a better looking piece than the Bond style and a tie in looks with the 2254.50.

Thank you. Sorry, should have said this is not my photo...apologies. This was for reference and the one I'm looking at is in superb condition. Your thinking is similar to mine...wanting something to keep in the draw and wear occasionally. And in the UK, divers arn't obviously a necessity, but good for the summer holiday!

I say go for it. Take your time and find a good one since replacement bezels or bracelet parts are pretty expensive. You should be able to find a cracker for around the grand mark IMO.

It's a great watch. If the price and condition is ok, then go for it. It makes a great daily wearer

IMO , there are 2 SMP Quartz models (now discontinued ) that should be in any collector's item

    ● Is your model Ref 2265.80 ?
It looks like it with the maxi Roman Sword hands. Lovely ! Last of its kind

    ● The First & the Only Omega Quartz in a Bond Movie & worn by Pierce Brosnan in his debut as agent 007 in GoldenEye 1995 . That would be model ref 2541.80.00 with the electric blue dial.
I daresay this watch reinvented Omega & the James Bond franchise in the modern era

You are forgetting the black dial 2264.50 Megan. That one is possibly the most sought after of the 3 if second hand prices are any indication, though I personally really like the electric blue one.

One big advantage that the sword hand models have over the Bond models is that the lume on them is fantastic as opposed to merely adequate on the Bond SMPs. I have never seen a sword hands that didn't shine like a torch. I really like them:

If you are evaluating the condition of the watch, look closely at the scalloped bezel. On the watch you've shown in the first post the edges have become slightly rounded due to polishing; these should be very crisp and with a very definite edge. The bezel is the place where wear shows up first, so spend some time looking there.

Interesting and thanks again. I prefer the blue/silver bezel.,.rather more unique, IMHO. I love the baton hands over the skeleton. And given I have a vintage 120, that covers the "black" look, although a very different watch. You have a nice collection and appreciate the photo.

It’s from Cousins in the UK. To be honest I don’t really recommend it, it is very very cheap but pretty thin. I much prefer leather but I guess if you are actually getting your watches wet then leather isn’t much good.

I've worn my SMP Quartz every day for the last 7 years , still looks pretty good , wouldn't part with it for the world . $50 to service it , what's not to like ?!
