Been thinking about using my tax return to boost my savings to purchase a new watch. Debating between the new seamster 300 and an aqua terra (blue dial). Any suggestions?

The LE 50th anniversary 300 or the standard 300 co-axial?

The standard 300 co-axial. The one that almost looks like the one James Bond wears in Spectre.

I have both. And it depends.

If I was only allowed to own one watch, it would be the blue AT.

I am actually selling the SM300, as I find the braclet clasp too thick for my liking. Plus, i haveha modern ploprof and that is my goto watch for vacation.

Well the blue aqua terra is indeed more versatile.

300 is more of a tool watch while the AT is dressier. That said, I wear my 300's and AT's whenever the mood grabs me.

As much as I like the 300 (and I personally have the LE 300 60th anniversary), I would actually probably lean more towards the AT if you want one watch that works well no matter what occasion. It looks just as good with a suit as it does in shorts and a t shirt. As mentioned above by a fellow member, the 300 is really more of a tool watch, so leans more casual.

I actually went to buy the sm300 when it came out.... and I walked out with a blue AT. Not sure I like the new AT’s as much as the model before though.

I just got a SM300 for a friend’s bday, or rather helped his wife get it for him. It’s his only watch and he has been liking “vintage “ but doesn’t want delicate and likes something he can dress down or up and he is a certified diver..... so it was just too aligned with him to pass ( and we found a 2016 which is his sons birth year.

So... both? Maybe think what drives your taste more when you see people wearing watches? If you keep looking at Diver watches like the PO or a sub etc then you’ll never be happy with only the AT.... and if you keep looking at dressier watches like an explorer or datejust etc then you’ll always feel you should have chosen the AT

I agree with Nobel Prize. I would go with AT but I am biased.

I suggest your compare them at an AD and choose the one that fits you better and that you like more. Last month. I went into an AD fully intending to buy a Seamaster 300, but on my wrist it was "meh." I wasn't that impressed in the flesh. I walked out instead with one of the new Seamaster Professional divers in blue. You might feel the same way when you see it in person.

If you like both equally, then it's a toss up, as the new Aqua Terra's have the same movement as the 300. The 300 is sporty to casual, the aqua terra is casual to dressy. But there's a lot of overlap and I've seen many guys pull off the 300 with a suit.

Let us know what you decide!

Hmm decisions decisions. I might have to make a trip to an AD to see the watches in person one of these days.

AT. It's almost perfect but for the lume.

    Have fun.

SMP300 for me, but you should go try both on at an AD.

It is still by far the most clear dial on my collection. At night or day with or without glasses.
