I’ve had about 10 at the last count, I’ve tried most varieties so yes I guess I could be called a collector. I’m down to 3 now though so maybe I’m fickle since I fall in and out of love with some such as the 2254. The non AC is my favourite.
I've always called it a "Seamaster Professonal", which it is... and is not a Planet Ocean, which is also a Seamaster Professional but has its own name, and so forth. 😀
Is the Seamaster GMT really "professional", though? No "Professional" on the dial and there's no helium valve....
Interesting question, actually. While there is no "Professional" on the dial, Omega didn't call the models "Seamaster Professional" on the website. Both were just listed as "Seamaster" although clearly one says "Professional" on the dial and the other does not. The argument is easy to make that the GMT is not a dive watch; since it isn't. It does have the same water resistance as the "Professional." It's just missing the helium wort that nobody, statistically, will ever use, and a proper dive bezel.
I didn't know the answer when I started looking this crap up, I was genuinely interested. I surmise that since the GMT isn't a dive watch Omega decided it didn't need either the helium escape valve or the word "Professional" on the dial face. Both watches use a modified ETA 2892-A2. The 1120 just added jewels and visual appeal, the 1128 in the GMT did the same plus an additional hand. If a helium valve makes the 300 M "Professional" and the GMT not, then, ok. I'm perfectly happy with my 300 GMT Unprofessional. 😜
