Seamaster 2846 18k redial?

Hi all,

Normally I can spot a redial fairly easily, however this one makes me doubt.

It is a (i think) reference 2846 in 18 karat gold with a cal 501 movement. I can buy it at a price of €900, given the condition of the case and the dial (if original) i would say that is a good price. I am not sure if the dial is original, the font looks a bit too thick and the position of the Omega text under the logo seems off? I only have 3 bad pictures of the watch so I can understand if you find it hard to make a judgement on this.

I have found a similar watch sold on the forum that looks similar but does not have the seahorse caseback: https://omegaforums.net/threads/18k...seamaster-two-tone-dial-reference-2846.62078/

I can see enough to think it looks cheap to me. A good steel one would make maybe €600-700 so you are getting the solid 18k case for about €200 extra. I know from experience they are heavily built. I'd buy it at that money, based on those pics alone. It is very nearly worth that in gold value alone...

Could not agree more! I've seen these go for double the price (and the OF thread you're sharing is from 2017 - market has changed a bit since then). On top, from what I can see it looks like a beautiful watch with dial in good state.

Thanks for the replies. As I will not be selling the watch (for its gold value) but intend to wear it, I would still only enjoy wearing it if the dial is original. However, could take the gamble and buy it, if it turns out the dial is not original and looks 'bad' in person I would probably be able to sell it without making a loss.

A focused pic of the dial would help a lot. 😉

I've asked the seller. He will send some pictures later today. Not sure if the pictures will be any better given the quality of the pictures above haha.

I’d buy this dial unseen for 900€. It’s a no-brainer at that price, so I’d suggest to pull the trigger and ask questions later. 😁
Do also note that this is a very common reference, so finding a replacement dial (in another watch) is relatively easy.

Pretty sure that's an original dial. Hopefully, the scratches are on the plexi. Hard to judge the exact condition of the lugs (eg how polished) from that picture, bottom right lug looks sharp, top left not so much. My gut feeling is that this is an overall very pleasing example and as said above, this would be a good buy at 900EUR if it didnt come with any dial whatsoever. 😀

I really don't think you will regret it. The danger was you were going to drag your feet and lose it. I have seen nothing to change my first impression.

Nice, fingers crossed for you it’ll turn out to be nice. You might want to order some PolyWatch and roll your sleeves up soon!

From above pics I would think dial is original .

Glad to hear you pulled the trigger. I own a gold-capped version of this reference and I have the exact same dial and hand configuration on mine. From what I can see your dial is original.
