    Gents,

A friend of mine bought Alpha's Seamaster 552 a little while ago, knowing it had an incorrect crown on it; he's now looking to fix that; can anyone tell me how I can find the correct part number for a crown/stem for this movement/case ref? I've looked at cousins and ofrei and it's not as simple as I thought it would be....

Ofrei use the caseback number not the calibre. Do you hae a photo of the inside caseback?

I took a very fuzzy one, need to get another - but I did quote the case ref in the title... :)

Ok, so following Daniels advice and stuffing the case ref into ofrei (rather than navigating as I was before), it gives Omega Crown Stainless Steel 42052/42527 w/Separate Female Stem Adapter - stuffing the 42052/42527 into cousins shows pictures of a crown similar to whats on there at the moment, rather than the one in the OVD:

and no clues on what the correct stem is (one in there looks too long) - can anyone suggest a stem? thanks - ridiculously fast responses, BTW Daniel. :)

Generally stems come long and you trim them to the correct length for your reference. They are made for movements and adjusted for various cases. Easy to do and easy to cut too short or long, if you are not experienced.

The Omega Extranet shows the crown part number as 069ST42055. The stem is 72205501106. Note these are currently available crowns, so may not be "original" as the one on it when the watch was produced. Note that with many modern crowns you will need to replace the stem (threads are different than with many vintage crowns) or use a stem adaptor. For me those are only an option of last resort, and I will always replace the stem when I can.

And yes, stems come longer than needed, and must be cut to the correct length. Easy to do with a simple crown, somewhat harder with a screw down crown. Measure twice, cut once! ;)

    Cheers, Al
