Considering this Seamaster from a highly reputable ebay seller for $800. No bracelet or even strap..claims it was found in an estate. The description says everything is signed, but nothing about refurbishment. Please share your thoughts.

The dial, case and movement look good, in original condition. The watch is supposed to be from 1960 and the movement serial is from 1962, which is possible, I think. The omega database mentions the movement 552, and this one is a 550. This is also possible (I think), without it being a frankenstein. All in all a nice watch, a bit expensive, but this is to be expected coming from a dealer.

    Nihil obstat (IMO).

Caliber 550 is correct, balance bridge is marked OXG indicating a US market watch.

If all the bits add up, I'd say it is a cracker I'd happily own.

It does look like a rather nice watch!
I'm always a bit on the fence with the Seamaster 'S' on watches from that era but I'm definitely NOT an expert...

Saw this on eBay too. Another shiny one. How to tell if it’s a redial or not?

That dial is pretty crisp but there is misalignment of the minute track either side of the 6 index. Not much but it’s definitely there. Lume plots are very even colour with no patina so I feel they may be re-done and no T(s) on the dial, but IIRC they don’t always appear. What concerns me more is how much polishing has gone on, if you look at the left side lugs on the movement shot, you’ve lost the chamfer on the top one completely and bottom right is very soft too. Looks like evidence of a bit of rotor-rub in the case back too. It’s quite a nice example just a few too many niggles for me at this price.

I don't see any misalignment of the minute track...
To be honest, this case looks to be virtually unpolished. The distortions @doog mentioned appear to be traits distinctive of the way the case was made. The only thing I could complain about at 800$ would be the lack of an original crystal. If the price were brought down by $150, then I'd probably buy it.

There are no T's because this is a radium dial...

All is good and comensurate - the only thing to complain about is the high price...

I always wonder how even a perfect dial is torn to pieces by some overly cautious critics here

The newbies here should consider that THERE ARE some genuine dials out there ;)

How come? The dial is original. No doubt.

When has even colored lume plots been an indicator for a redial/relume? Normally, its the other way around.

Both the lume plots and the lume on the hands has aged like you would expect radium to.

Haha. That’ll teach me for having an opinion. The radium has caught me out, and if that’s straight then the dial is straight too. I still reckon those lugs have been polished though. (Dons tin helmet and waits for incoming).

I can understand why it might seem that the lugs were polished, but if you compared this to an unpolished version, you'd see that the finishing is almost exactly the same. The brushing doesn't show up in the images, but that's just the lighting.

Look at the edges. They are still pretty sharp. The light is so intense that pics look too bright. That's the major problem with online info sharing. Bad pics.
