I am a very recent fan of Formula 1 racing and was only vaguely aware of Micheal Schumacher. The Netflix documentary on Schumacher's racing career was outstanding.

"vaguely aware of Michael Schumacher" is a bit like "vaguely aware of Michael Jordan" when you're into Basketball 😀
Will watch it, he was a hell of a driver!

I enjoyed the documentary. My accumulation of Schumacher caps since the 90s. From his Ferrari years. I saw him in Montreal, Indianapolis and Monza. The speeds in Monza were the fastest ever until only recently. The normally aspirated engines revved at nearly 20000 rpm and sounded fantastic. Always a contender, even when the car was less than ideal. He fought hard and did what he could to win when the odds were against him. Controversial at times, competitive always. I wish him and his family the best. Oh, and in 1997 I cheered for my fellow Canadian, but I still admire Schumacher.

If you are just getting into the sport, there are a handful of good ones.
Senna
"1" The Movie"
and of course newer ones like Drive To Survive on Netflix.

I watched the documentary as soon as it went out on Netflix. I’m the one who was big supporter of MS but I don’t follow modern F1 for more than 10 years. Which means the document was beautiful opportunity to recall great memories I have about the old F1. My overall impression however is not that high as I have had after watching Senna documentary. What I like about the Schumi documentary is that producers spent just a little time about the years he dominated F1 and on the other hand they have been telling us the MS story since he was a kid and before he started his domination.

People sometimes complain that there is no news about his health condition. While the documentary was prepared in cooperation with his family and they keep all information about his condition too secret, I’m not surprised and I didn’t expect to get some kind of big reveal here. But from what young Schumi said, it’s obvious MS can’t speak. His condition is probably still very serious. That’s a pity :-(

Drive to Survive is what got me into F1. Great series. I'll definitely watch the others, thanks.

Outstanding documentary.
No interest in F1 anymore, but I used to love it.

As great a driver as he was, it was madness the few times he purposely ran other drivers off the track

Exactly - I would’ve wished for a more in-depth depiction of one of the all-time greats, both in driving and bitter ruthlessness. Yes, we saw hints here and there - the Hill incident which wasn’t criticized by the English gentleman himself with not much more than a one-liner and a wink, the Villeneuve incident and some of the aftermath… I was hoping for comments from Schumi himself on those situations, a critical reflection by more neutral contemporaries, a bit of which Webber provided.

Overall: some nice pictures, but compared to Senna (the movie) this wasn’t much.

Sadly, as stated above, this seems to be the final confirmation that hearing from Michael again is highly unlikely. My commiseration to his family.

Also, the ‘biographical sports film’ Rush from 2013 is well worth a look. It tells the story of the rivalry and friendship between Niki Lauda and James Hunt in the 1976 F1 championship.
