I got a message from a Dennis last night saying he had a VC Grande Malte Classique for sale as my WTB post. Message has now been deleted from my inbox. Have the mods deleted it?

Does anyone know how a fraud gets such a high seller rating on ebay?

Folks, the scammer above no doubt lifted photos from the eBay auction that Neil listed above. I believe that is what Neil was illustrating. This is a common scammer practice, after all, they have to show you something they don't have. ;)

You need to be careful of anything from this email address as well as it's slightly different from one above

I also got contacted by "Dennis Maller" from email: [email protected]

He is contacting people with WTB ads offering whatever it is they are looking to buy, he offered my WTB item at a price that was 20% lower than the normal price (which was a first alert to me).

When I showed concern on the purchase he offered to do the transaction via Paypal (with the supposed "security" of Paypal). I declined but decided to go along and offered to do the trade via a well know third party (I proposed to use an intermediary to exchange money/goods), he declined my proposed intermediary and he offered in return a large national jewelry store who is a registered Rolex distributor (why a well know brand name would accept this was also a non-starter to me, but I decided to continue to see where this would lead).

After I accepted this intermediary he had someone contact me supposedly from the jewelry store, providing a real name. My response to the caller was that I would call the store and the person directly, obviously when I called the store the real person had absolutely no knowledge of Dennis Maller nor that they were being used in this attempted hoax (fraud).

I am sharing this with the forum so everyone is alert and have knowledge of the extent this person is going to take advantage of the forum and buyers.

A very impatient stammer too. When I didn't answer his PM for a couple of hours, he sent me another one asking if I got the first. Usually it's the buyer who is the one in a hurry

    emphasis in quote mine:

you might rephrase that into "attempted FRAUD"

scamming numerous people out of 3 or 4 digits is not a hoax!!!!!

of course ... time is against him ... he needs to see how much money he can grab in the shortest period of time, before word gets out .... and run!

I am always extra cautious when people seem to be too pressing for time ...
