I’m always out looking for deals on watches. My hunt paid off when I scored this grand seiko in a pawn shop yesterday. It all checks out with seiko and it has a bit of wear (which I’m fine with because I’m gonna wear it ). It came with box and papers.

Have a friend that works at the local dealer that pulled out a few links and steamed it for me. She wears great.

*side note:

There was an old man behind me in line waiting for
me to walk away. He was mad but still took the time to shake my hand and congratulated me on my purchase.

I’ve been that guy before (missed a 700.00 IWC spitfire).

Update ! The guy that bought the spitfire out from under me lost it in layway ! I picked it up and it’s off with Iwc now for service.

Back to this watch… does anyone know if I send this off to GS for service if they will update it with a modern dial ? The new “wave” dials are pretty sweet in their depth.

Congratulations it's a beautiful timepiece. I hope you enjoy it for many years! Great score.

The search for nice watches in pawn shops is full of pitfalls and danger.

The big stores will allow a return if it’s found to not be authentic.

The first stop after purchase is a dealer to have it looked at. I typically need a lot of research before I get into the purchase. But this has to be done fast as a quality piece will not last on the shelf.

Deals can be had but I generally incorporate the cost of a full service into my purchase.

The nicest items are not gonna last long.

If I can get a new dial at service I will be feeling pretty good.

I want to go to your pawnshop!
Right? Pawn shops in my area either refuse to carry watches, or just have a handful of absurdly overpriced stuff in their case. The ONE that carries watches in my area had a handful of 'nice' watches (hamilton, Tissot, etc) that were basically MSRP. It also had a 'needs service' Invicta Pro Diver for $120.
