·Hi folks,
Just picked up a breitling navitimer 01! Was never a fan of most breitling designs (though the transocean is a beaut in my eyes) - but I've always had an eye on these navitimers. The engineer in me was fascinated by the circular slide rule, and the styling was just classic to me.
Anyhow, picked it up and took a couple mediocre photos next to my speedy pro. Interesting thing - I love the navi, but putting the speedy back on gave me a whole new appreciation for the weight, balance, and feel of the speedmaster. Felt denser, more svelte, and balanced better on my wrist - just seems to sit more securely. But maybe I just need to give the navi some time for the croc straps to get more supple.
This is the B01 movement. Slightly higher frequency than the speedmaster which you can hear easily when holding it to your ear (~28kbph vs the speedy's 21kbph). This is my first automatic so the rotor whir is something to get used to, but the 70 hour power reserve is nice for peace of mind on the days I wear the speedy. Chrono is powered by the column wheel actuation vs the cam in the speedy's 1861, but the pushers are actually a little 'clickier' and tougher to push than the speedy.
The breitling's electronic warranty card that gets "activated" at the AD was pretty cool too.
Definitely a 'blingier' watch than the speedy, but I'm looking forward to using the slide rule for usd->yen conversion in my upcoming tokyo trip!
cheers, and happy friday!
