I have always wanted one of these but

 OK, that's not right, let me start over.

I have always wanted several of these, but due to bad timing, luck etc., I was never able corral the first one.
I missed out on Kyle's lovely 2364 as it traveled from member to member.
Having never seen one up close I did not appreciate that the 33mm ones had far greater wrist presence than one might suspect,
perhaps owing to the narrow bezel. The larger models like the 2367 and others, seemed even harder to come by.
Sure there are watches out there, but most have either very degraded dials, hideous redials ( the sought after German watchfair dial excepted), and rusted out cases or movements. The other night while on routine eBay patrol, I spotted a watch I had seen before but dismissed.
What struck me was not the watch itself, but rather that its open auction seemed to be going nowhere. Following it, it looked perfect for a snatch snipe, for if my assessment of the other bidders was correct, I could easily grab it.

    So that's what I did

I should say that I would certainly prefer a pristine dial and a NOS watch. This watch had/was neither. However.... despite having a Kyle patina, henceforth called a "Kytina", it does have some attributes.

The Watch. 2364, actually the same model and dial as Kyle's first RG.
The dial is correct, original . The patina is fairly consistent inside the silver chapter ring and is an orange gold color that looks like a gold dial when worn.
The case appears unpolished, a big plus with a 70 year old watch.
The movement is in good shape, no rust, fairly bright and unabused. I was able shine up the case screws and replace a couple with new looking ones.
These things are known for being accurate, this one is no exception, damn thing runs spot on (no I have not properly timed it, but I check it regularly)

I well I will keep searching, next on the list of these is a nice large size SC RG with a clear dial, but searchers can't be choosey, I'll take what comes up

wow! I like it!  and you snatched it in perfect timing to celebrate Halloween too! Any idea how the patina missed the spot by the 8-hour marker? Any pics from the movement?

Guess?. Long ago a watch maker dropped a minuet spot of oil on the dial. While the oil did dry up and cannot be seen today, it kept the discoloration, caused by the watches chain-smoking owner, from forming on the the dial. How's that?:D

Oh, I'm sorry. My mouse stopped working.

That's better. I actually considered bidding on this one the first time around. I have no idea why I missed it then or on the second auction.

    Congratulations!

Hoi and I discussed that..... And abandoned the idea. The sauce does not work well on kytina.
And, as the dial has a lot going for it, way too chancy to gamble. I'll just be satisfied that the dial is not refinished, has crispy script and is unique.

A big congrats, Steve! Great catch. That's a both beatiful and unique patina in that dial!

That watch looks better now than when new, if you ask me.
