·Exciting to see what will happening. I thougth there would be more excitement about it here/Hodinkee and other forums/websites. I think nobody likes to hype it, as some might to add it to their own collection.
But even some Investor may see their opportunity as these are so rare.
I will not bid as I don't have the funds for it. But if I were a rich man, I would go all in...

I think there might be some truth in this. A bit like how pristine desirable Universals never seem to pop up in the UG eBay thread....

·10,000 CHF hammer price plus 25% commission plus 7.7% VAT, so around 13,500 CHF in total.
My own view is that is a slightly underwhelming result but nonetheless a pretty significant sum for a Polarouter.
Was anyone here lucky enough to buy it?

I never expected it to go stratospheric but had hoped it would reach the upper estimate of 15,000 CHF.
I was thinking the very same as you. At that hammer price, I wonder how many people are regretting not bidding.

·My bidding was rejected on a technicality. Pointless being pissed about it but quite surprised the status was not highlighted when I placed my bid which was well before the auction was due 🙁

I spoke with an American collector yesterday who had left a commission bid equal to the hammer price and who also lost out, equally galling I imagine.

·Considering my bid, hammer price, and what was considered as technicalities, i believe the watch will re appear at auction or be up for sale somewhere very soon ...
Bottom line is that there was insufficient interest and bidding did not reach expectations of auction house.

My understanding is this should only happen if the identical bid was also a commission bid. In this instance, it will be the earliest place commission bid that will win.
Any other type would have to be higher than the commission bid to win, unless the auctioneer made a big error. If they made an error. I’m sure there is some small print protecting them for these types of errors.
For anyone that intends to leave a commission bid my advise would be to get in early.
You can also consider a plus 1, which allows the auctioneer to add a bid to your “max” in circumstances when there are identical commission bids.

This was my understanding until relatively recently but I don't think it is true.
I lost out on a lot in a US auction house where my commission bid was exactly the same as the eventual hammer price. When I enquired to check whether my commission bid had been successful, I was told that a floor bidder had won the lot and was directed to an FAQ on their website that explained how this can happen.
I'm not sure that all auction houses operate in this way but I now try to bid live (online or on a telephone) if at all possible.

·I won the watch with an absentee bid at a 10k CHF hammer! It really is spectacular. Many thanks to Greg (https://www.instagram.com/livingstonsatnight/) for helping me get a seconds hand for it given that the other had the back tip broken. It is now owned by a good client and I miss it! My first post ever for HODINKEE was about the Polarouter/Polerouter back in 2010, so I couldn't resist the opportunity to bid on the holy grail SAS Polarouter. Best regards, Eric Wind
