Many people were contacted buy him before Dennis noticed his IP from Nigeria and banned him, all up about 35 people have been sent a message warning them not to do business with this guy, don't get burned and as always if you're in any doubt ask for references and check them out.

Well, to be fair it was Steve / cicindella who did the digging on his IP address. I was contacted by him and asked for references and the guy vanished. That's when I started a conversation amongst the moderators from work and Steve nuked him upon the Nigeria discovery.

However, I did like the fact he said he was from Florida yet he also had a proxy California IP address to go along with his Nigerian IP. My next set of questions would include where in Florida he was because I travel both coasts and have friends in high AND low places all over the state. 😁 One of these days I'll tell you a story about a gap insurance company based in Florida that gave Windy the runaround so bad she was in tears. Last time they'll think they can get away with playing games with somebody who they believe is 1200 miles away.

It's funny that you mention that tonight. I just posted this about a common auto insurance racket that takes place here in "no-fault" Florida all the time:

My annual homeowners premium is currently about 3.5% of the amount at risk. By the insurance company's reckoning, I should have a total loss once every 30 years. Not a claim, but a 100% destroyed home. We have a lot of tropical storms here, but that's a bit ridiculous.

It's a scam, but our politicians do nothing as they've all been bought by the same companies.

Not a scam - in a capitalist society that's called good business! 😉

Not much different from Glaxo selling the asthma inhaler Advair in the US for $250-350 when you can buy the same drug for $45 in Paris and even cheaper in other parts of the world. Not illegal or a scam mind you - just "good business." That's why even after having been available for well over 10 years now annual Advair sales total $8B. And I know way too many people whose lives are disrupted because they can't afford the drug - they have all these freedoms that they can't exercise because they don't have their health.

Don't want to wander too far off the reservation, but you just touched a real sore point with me.

The reason the drug is only $45 in Paris, is that there is only one purchaser of Rx drugs in France...the French Government, through their national insurance program. Glaxo either sells to them at the government's price, or they don't sell at all.

In the USA, most end users only pay a small fraction of the $250-$350 price due to co-payments, etc. The insurance companies are large enough purchasers of these drugs to secure much lower prices. Probably close to the $45 you quote above. Medicare probably pays something close as well.

The only ones that get charged the highest price are the uninsured, who are the least likely to be able to afford either insurance or the drugs. Medicaid helps the truly destitute, but those caught without health insurance due to loss of a job or spouse are really screwed. Pretty much the same deal with hospitals and doctor fees.

We in the USA say that we want to have a free market when it comes to medical services and Rx drugs. The reality is that the market for these goods and services is anything but free. It likely never will be free so long as the government is the largest purchaser and fixes the price through their programs.

Rant over. Back to our regularly scheduled program,

Nope - Medicare is not allowed to negotiate drug prices with pharmaceutical companies so they essentially pay full price. So both the uninsured and the government both pay full price. Projected savings would be about $540B over the next decade - enough to at least put off any planned cuts elsewhere in Medicare.

And agreed - free market in healthcare is a joke - not when you have situations like big pharma paying generic drug makers not to make generic versions of the drug.
