I am deeply distressed to announce the unexpected death of Laurent/Noodia. Perhaps better known among Heuer fans, he championed this forum from the very beginning. Laurent was a gentleman, a discerning and knowledgeable collector, a source of relentless energy and a positive force in the watch community - very many of us around the world were proud to call him "friend." He leaves a legacy of openness, warmth, generosity to veteran and noob alike, enthusiasm and true passion. His loss is overwhelming. Sincere condolences to his family. May they take some comfort in knowing how many of us around the world feel his loss and mourn with them. In memory of Noodia, something he and I looked at together less than a month ago
I never had the pleasure of meeting the man but he is well known. I really got into Polerouter Subs a couple of years ago but didn’t know the first thing about the watch. I spent hours pouring over as much information as I could find on the Internet. I’d spot a great example on a web site from years ago, three months ago - whenever and I’m telling you, in just about every instance it was a watch from Noodia. I kept saying to myself, who is this guy? I began to seek out his postings across various forums because he was the rare gentleman who had an amazing collection, unbelievable knowledge, and an obvious enthusiasm to share his findings. He had the goods to back it up but he was never condescending. He just wanted to share his collection because he loved watches. For a noob, that’s intoxicating. You just sit back, keep your mouth shut, and soak in the knowledge. I am sorry to hear of his passing. He will be missed.
I was very sad to hear the news. i didn't know him personally, but felt like I did -- his collection was one of the very first i encountered online when i started this hobby. a true collector who seemed to focus on what really mattered when it comes to vintage instead of bling. The deepest respect for him. My condolences to his family. May those who he touched & inspired survive him. Hard to believe I won't see another post from him.
Very, very sad news. He was a gentleman among gentleman, who clearly touched so many lives with his incredible generosity and willingness to openly share his knowledge. Rest in Peace - Laurent (Noodia)
Extremely sad, indeed. My history with him only goes as deep as a couple emails traded back and forth, but the past week has truly shown how loved he was by the collecting community. RIP, Laurent!
